✨ A little Sparkles update, my lovely Sparkles family! ✨

I’m heading over to Sydney from Monday, 31 August 🇦🇺✈️ for an exciting opportunity. I’ll be judging at AUSGROOM and also taking to the stage as a speaker at this prestigious grooming event. ✂️🐩✨

I’ll be back in the salon on Tuesday, 8 September and can’t wait to get back to all my gorgeous clients! 💕

While I’m away, you can still jump online and check my availability. There are a few appointments still dotted around for the rest of this year, but they are getting very limited!

And excitingly, my 2027 appointments are now open! 🎉 As you all know, I book up well in advance, so if you know when you’d like your pooches booked in for next year, get in quick before those appointments disappear too! 🐾✂️

What a fantastic day at the salon!

We had over 20 groomers come together to upskill, share ideas, learn new techniques, and explore different styles, shapes and profiles. There was such a great atmosphere, with everyone focused on learning and doing their best work.

We had groomers who were just four days into their training, right through to those with 18 years in the profession. It just goes to show that no matter where you are in your grooming journey, you never stop learning in this profession.

A special thank you to Erin from TransFURmations in Palmerston North and Rachel from Mrs K in Tokoroa for joining me in mentoring and sharing your knowledge throughout the day.

Thank you to every groomer who came along, got involved and made the day such a success.

And of course, a HUGE thank you to the real stars of the show, all the beautiful dogs who participated and allowed us to learn from them. A special mention to our little Sparkles models, Zena, Otis, Millie, Milly, Lola, Miley, Peewee, Rex and Trixie, also a gorgeous little visiting Cavoodle whose name has completely escaped me 😂, and all of the dogs the groomers brought with them from their own towns.

Days like this are what continuing education in our industry is all about. Learning, sharing, supporting each other and always striving to do better for the dogs in our care. ❤️

📦 A PLEA FOR BOXES! 📦

We are dismantling the salon tomorrow afternoon (Friday), ready for our new flooring to be installed.

We only have two days to pack the entire salon up, get the new flooring down, and then put everything back together again! 😅

I’m desperately in need of around 10 medium-sized cardboard boxes to help us get everything packed up.

If anyone has some spare boxes and is able to drop them off tomorrow morning (Friday), I would be so appreciative! 🙏💚

We’re not going anywhere — we’re just giving the salon a fresh new floor! 🐾

What a wonderful morning with the Probus North Rotorua Club! 🐾💚

A huge thank you to everyone at the Probus North Rotorua Club for the warm welcome today. It was an absolute pleasure to spend the morning with such a fantastic group of people.

Over the hour, we explored how to keep our dogs healthy, comfortable, and looking their best between grooming appointments. We covered practical home grooming tips, recognising changes in your dog's skin and coat, and knowing when it's time to seek professional or veterinary advice.

Our gorgeous little Trixie was the star of the show, helping with a live line-brushing demonstration while we answered lots of thoughtful questions from the audience. I always enjoy hearing everyone's stories about their own dogs, and today's discussion was full of great conversations and genuine enthusiasm.

Thank you again to the Probus North Rotorua Club for inviting GroomWise Academy to present. It was a privilege to share my knowledge with such an engaged and welcoming community. Probus clubs provide wonderful opportunities for retired and semi-retired people to connect, learn, and enjoy interesting guest speakers, making today's event even more special.

I hope everyone went home feeling a little more confident about caring for their furry family members.

Some dogs, including those living with Cushing's disease, can develop sensitive, fragile skin and changes to their coat.
Every groom starts with a thorough skin and coat assessment. We look at the condition of the skin, the texture and quality of the coat, and check for signs that may suggest an overgrowth of yeast or bacteria, or other skin concerns that may need extra care.
Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner isn't just about making a dog smell nice. It's about selecting products that are gentle, appropriate for that dog's skin and coat, and supporting their comfort throughout the grooming process.

Short doesn't always mean see through! Lots of coat doesnt always mean warmth either! A well maintained coat is tangle free, clean and healthy. When all 3 of these things are in balance then the coat will perform and insulate. 👌
