Then she looked at me with that little face… and my fostering career was over 😂🐾
For those who haven’t met us yet, I’m Natasha—Tash—and this is Moshi, Prey’s official taste tester and self-appointed product control officer.
Animals have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Cats, guinea pigs, mice… much to my parents’ delight. Or perhaps not the mice! 😉
I qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1993, working here in New Zealand and later in the UK. But it was my own dogs who sparked my curiosity about different feeding options. With guidance from a friend and veterinary nursing colleague working in raw feeding, I started learning more.
Then, during the first COVID lockdown, David Barrowman, of BarrowmanGoodmanVets , and I got talking.
What if we brought a raw pet food shop to Rotorua, alongside a veterinary clinic—a place where people could buy food and have someone to talk to about feeding it?
In October 2020, David, Anna Goodman and I opened Prey Pet Food | Rotorua 💜
A few months later, All Paws Murupara Trust brought a tiny puppy with a broken leg into BarrowmanGoodmanVets .
Enter Moshi. 🐕👋
She was seven or eight weeks old, ridiculously cute and meant to be a foster. You can guess how that ended. 🐕
These days, she takes her taste-testing duties seriously. Outside work, we’re both sun seekers—you’ll usually find me gardening and Moshi snoozing in a sunny spot. ☀️
At Prey, one of the questions I hear most is:
“How do I know I’m feeding my pet correctly?”
And that’s where we start—with a conversation about your pet, their age, weight, health and what they currently eat. From there, we can talk through feeding options and the support they might need.
You don’t need to arrive knowing all the answers. That’s what the conversation is for.
Come and say hello. I’ll do the talking. Moshi will handle quality control. 😉🐾
