We are situated on Jones Road in Rolleston in modern, purpose built premises. Nick and Yolande Howell are ready and able to help you with any pet issues or problems, advice on vaccinations, neutering and nutrition, in fact anything to do with your pets. Day 5: X-rays & Dentals 🦷🩻✨

Vet nurses are more involved in diagnostic imaging and dentals than you might think!

We help prepare and position patients, take X-rays for the veterinarian to interpret, assist with dental X-rays, scale and polish teeth, all while another vet nurses monitors the patients throughout their anaesthetic! 🩺🐾

Vet nurses care for a range of patients every day, including patients recovering from surgery, critically ill pets, injured wildlife, and everything in between! 🐾

We monitor their vital signs, administer medications, provide fluids & nutritional support, and make sure each patient is comfortable, clean & receiving the care they need throughout their stay! 🧸 🤍

Day 3: Anaesthesia 🩺✨

Vet nurses play a huge role in keeping your pets safe and comfortable under anaesthesia! 😴

We set up the surgery and anaesthetic equipment, place intravenous catheters, calculate and administer medications, intubate patients, and monitor them closely throughout their general anaesthetic or sedation. 💉

We monitor things such as heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels and temperature, making adjustments when needed to ensure each patient remains safe and comfortable. 🐶🐱

And our job doesn’t stop when surgery is finished! Stay tuned tomorrow to see our hospital nursing. 💛

A very important part of a vet nurse’s job is keeping our hospital and consultation rooms clean, tidy & fully stocked! 🧹🧽

From disinfecting consult rooms to cleaning equipment and surgical kits, and of course, the endless amounts of washing 😆, there’s a lot of cleaning that goes on behind the scenes to keep our patients safe and our hospital running smoothly! 🐾

Happy Veterinary Nurse Awareness Week! 💛

Every day this week, we’ll be showcasing a part of our job that you may not know we do! ✨

Day 1: Diagnostics 🧪✨

Vet nurses play a big role in diagnostics! We’re able to take blood samples, perform ear cytology, collect urine samples and run a range of laboratory tests, before presenting the results to the veterinarian. 🩸🔬

We also prepare and package cytology samples and lumps to be sent to the laboratory for further testing. 🥼📦

This week, we are celebrating the incredible superheroes of our clinic - our veterinary nurses. 😻

Selwyn Vets is really fortunate to have such a great team of wonderful nurses.

From comforting patients and helping them feel safe to assisting in surgery, running diagnostics, educating clients, and supporting families, our veterinary nurses do it all.

They truly are the 💗 and soul of our clinic.
To our veterinary nurses: thank you for the teamwork, the laughter, the long days, and the heart you bring to your work every day 🐶
