Calvings are petering off for us here at Franklin Vets, while the lambings continue to dribble through. With the babies getting older and bouncing about the paddock, you should be working your way up to weaning and kicking off health care schedules for the young’uns.

Often referred to as β€œbearings”; pr*****ed vaginas occur in sheep and, less commonly,

With the weather turning cooler & the days becoming shorter, we will hopefully start to see the incidence of many summertime diseases trending downward. If you have backyard chickens, you may notice the number of eggs drop as they begin moulting (see the article on the page).

FLYSTRIKE is out and about already and it is time to act.
This is a timely reminder that we are full steam ahead, into a long hot summer!
Please start keeping a close eye on your animals, and get your flystrike prevention on ASAP. Our shelves are stocked up with CYREX, ready for the onslaught. For less than 20 sheep, Cyrex is the most cost-effective product for prevention. Just mix with water and pour over the body (a watering can works wells) to protect from flies and maggots for 12 weeks!
Don’t’ forget to shear as soon as possible and drench to prevent daggy backsides.
Please give us a call if you have a fly struck animal. The tissue damage causes substantial pain, distress and infection and a vet is required to treat and dress the wound, provide pain relief, anti-inflammatories and antibiotics.
