Stupendous!

Finland may have just taken a major step toward wireless electricity.

Researchers at the University of Helsinki and the University of Oulu have demonstrated a way to send electrical energy through open air—without relying on a traditional cable. They used powerful ultrasonic waves to create an invisible pathway through the air, allowing a spark to travel along a controlled route.

But wireless power doesn’t stop there. Laser-based power transmission could eventually deliver energy to places where physical conductors are difficult or dangerous to use, including nuclear facilities and high-voltage infrastructure.

At the same time, radio-frequency energy harvesting is already showing potential for powering tiny sensors using energy from surrounding electromagnetic waves—possibly reducing the need for millions of disposable batteries.

The future of electricity could look very different: less wiring, more wireless power. ⚡🔬
