Meet gentle Jeremy 🐾

Jeremy came to us in November for assessment of a suspected common calcaneal "achilles" tendon injury.

After a thorough evaluation, Dr Andrew Worth performed a tendon repair and screw fixation of his hock or "ankle" to take the load off the tendon and allow it to heal.

Jeremy's recovery involved numerous bandage changes, rechecks, and careful monitoring to ensure the best possible outcome.

Two months later, the screw was removed, and he was fitted with a Pawthotic brace to allow some gradual loading of the tendon. At this time he started physiotherapy with Lauren at MEND Vet Rehab.

Throughout his treatment, Jeremy was an absolute superstar, and his owner showed incredible dedication every step of the way.

We're delighted to report that Jeremy has now been discharged from both our care and physiotherapy. He's back doing what he loves most — enjoying beach walks with his family. 🌊🐕

Well done, Jeremy! We're so proud of your recovery. ❤️

Meet handsome Simon 🐾

Simon was referred to us by the wonderful team at Vets On Riverbank Otaki for TPLO surgery to repair his cruciate ligament. After 6 weeks, he made a wonderful recovery with the assistance of physiotherapy from Deb Prattley in Feilding.

Simon’s dedicated owner will continue with his physiotherapy and walking programme following his 6-week check-up.

We wish Simon all the very best as he continues his recovery journey ❤️

Meet handsome Onyx 🖤🐾

This sweet boy came to see us with a limp in his right hind leg, and after his initial consultation, we were able to get him booked in for a TPLO surgery within just 7 days. 💪✨

Onyx’s owner is a familiar face to our team, and we’ve had the privilege of caring for a couple of her other beautiful doggos over the years too. We’re always so grateful for the trust our returning clients place in us. 💕

A huge shoutout as well to the wonderful team at Black Dog Physio for helping support Onyx through his post-op physio journey.

Wishing this gorgeous boy all the very best.

A cuddly toy can really help comfort pets on surgery day, especially when they’re groggy, anxious, or separated from you for part of the day.

This is beautiful Phoebe 💕 She first visited us in December last year for her left TPLO surgery, and then returned in January for her right TPLO. Throughout it all, she was such a brave little girl, and it was an absolute pleasure having her in the clinic — she completely stole our hearts.

Here she is, looking as lovely as ever and showing off her gorgeous pink harness ✨

🐶✨ What is JPS Surgery? ✨🐶
Juvenile P***c Symphysiodesis (JPS) is a preventative surgery performed in young puppies to help reduce the severity of future hip dysplasia. 🦴💙

🩺 Diagnosis
Young dogs first require a hip assessment (Ortolani test and usually PennHIP X-rays) under sedation. PennHIP results take around a week to arrive. If mild or moderate HD is diagnosed, JPS is recommended. The day procedure is performed under general and local anaesthesia through a 3-5cm incision in the dog’s groin. JPS adjusts the natural growth of the pelvis.

✅ Recovery
Most pets experience very little discomfort with the procedure, keeping them calm and quiet for the necessary 10 days after surgery is often the biggest challenge! Complications are rare but include bruising, infection and loss of stitches. Over the following month, the rest of the pelvis continues growing normally, but the closed p***s growth plate results in deepening of the hip sockets.
