Healthy Holidays: A Quick Note on Vaccination Requirements!
Hello Cattery Families, we are counting down the days until your lovely cats come to stay with us.
To ensure all our furry guests enjoy a safe, illness-free holiday, we want to share a quick reminder about our wellness entry requirements.
The Two-Week Rule: To board with us, your cat must be up-to-date with their annual vaccinations. Crucially, their latest vet appointment must be at least 14 days prior to their arrival date.
Why the wait? It takes a full two weeks for a vaccine to prime your cat's immune system. Arriving any sooner leaves them vulnerable to common germs.
What Do the Annual Shots Cover? New Zealand vet clinics tailor annual schedules based on long-term immunity needs.
Depending on the year, your vet might give a full core shot or an alternate-year booster. We accept both systems, provided they are current!
These routine injections keep your cat safe from three highly contagious viruses:
Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1): The main driver behind "Cat Flu." Alarmingly, over 90% of cats are exposed to FHV-1 in their lifetime, and 80% become lifelong hidden carriers. Because stress can trigger a viral flare-up, keeping vaccinations current prevents active outbreaks of painful eye infections and sneezing.
Feline Calicivirus (FCV): Another major "Cat Flu" strain that moves rapidly through shared spaces. It causes painful mouth and tongue ulcers, making it incredibly difficult for a cat to eat comfortably.
Feline Panleukopenia (FPV): Often called feline enteritis or feline parvo, this is a dangerous virus that attacks the gut. It is incredibly tough and survives in environments for a long time, making vaccine protection vital.
Please double-check your catโs veterinary booklet today to ensure their dates align perfectly with your travel plans.
Don't forget to pack the booklet for drop-off day!
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our cattery a safe, happy sanctuary.
Warmest regards,
The Papamoa Beach Cats Team
