📢 Important Update – Fuel Price Increase

Hi everyone,
As many of you will already know, fuel prices have increased worldwide. Unfortunately, this means our petrol costs will also need to rise for the time being. With our team often travelling over 500km each week to reach you and your horses, this adjustment helps us continue providing reliable care across the region.

We truly appreciate your understanding and support during this time. 💛

To help keep costs down where possible, we’re offering a few flexible options:
🐴 Group dental bookings – organise a group in your area to receive a reduced dental rate and split the travel costs.
🚗 Meet halfway – we’re happy to arrange a mutual meeting point to minimise travel fees.
🏡 Bring your horse to Lauren’s – afternoon and evening appointments are available at Lauren’s property for those who prefer to come to us.

Thank you all for your ongoing support. We hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend—especially those of you out enjoying your horses. 🐎💫

Please feel free to message us with any questions or to arrange a booking

🐴 Tetanus: A Simple Reminder That Can Save Your Horse’s Life

Tetanus aka 'lock jaw'is a deadly bacterial disease in horses and is common in New Zealand soil. The bacteria live in soil and manure and can enter the body through any wound — even tiny cuts, hoof abscesses, or surgical sites you may not notice.

Once symptoms appear, tetanus causes severe muscle stiffness, paralysis, and painful spasms. Sadly, it is often fatal, and treatment is difficult and frequently unsuccessful.

💉 Vaccination is the ONLY effective protection.

Tetanus vaccination basics: • Two initial doses given 4–6 weeks apart
• A booster within 12 months
• Ongoing boosters every 2–5 years
• Wounded horses often require an immediate booster T.A.T (tetanus antitoxin)

With the beginning of the year, now is a great time to check that your horse’s vaccinations are up to date, especially tetanus.

✨ We provide all routine vaccinations at Coastal Equine Vets and are happy to help you review your horse’s vaccination status or make a plan that suits their needs.

📌 Remember:
Vaccination is the only reliable way to protect your horse from tetanus, a devastating disease common in New Zealand.

If you’re unsure when your horse is due, please get in touch — prevention is always better than the cure.
