Weekend vibes in the Bird Room 🐦

Our aviary is looking absolutely stunning at the moment — plenty of colour, plenty of chatter, and lots of little personalities waiting to meet you!

If you’ve been thinking about adding some finches or canaries to your aviary, this weekend is the perfect time to pop in, have a look and have a chat with us about which birds are best suited together.

We’ve also got our bulk Finch & Canary Seed Mixes stocked up and ready to go.

🐰 THURSDAY RABBIT TALK

Cute? Absolutely. But rabbits are a much bigger commitment than many people realise!

Before welcoming rabbits into your family, here are a few important things to know:

🌿 1. They need space
Rabbits need plenty of room to hop, stretch, explore and exercise. A small cage simply isn’t enough.

💉 2. Vaccinations matter
Regular vaccinations help protect rabbits from serious diseases present here in New Zealand. Chat with your rabbit-savvy vet about the appropriate schedule.

🐰 3. They’re social animals
Rabbits generally thrive with companionship. A desexed male and desexed female can make a fantastic bonded pair.

✂️ 4. Desexing is important
Desexing helps prevent unexpected litters, can make bonding easier, and offers health and behavioural benefits.

🥬 5. Diet is everything
Good-quality grass hay should make up the majority of a rabbit’s diet, alongside appropriate fresh greens and a measured amount of quality rabbit pellets.

❤️ 6. They need a long-term commitment
Rabbits need time, interaction and commitment from their family. They can live for many years and deserve just as much thought and preparation as any other pet.

They might have one of the cutest faces in the shop… but education always comes before the sale at Paws & Claws. 🐰

SATURDAY AT PAWS & CLAWS 🐾

Come in and see us today! There’s plenty happening in store, with a huge range of fish, birds, reptiles, small animals and everything you need for them.

We also have a very special little hand-tame Bourke Parakeet in store at the moment 👀💕

This little one is an absolute sweetheart — loves chatting away, sitting on you and just being wherever you are. Definitely the type of bird that could make a pretty special little companion for the right home… 👀
