🐣 Easter Reminder for Pet Owners: Chocolate & Dogs Don’t Mix!🍫🐕🚫

With Easter around the corner, many homes are filled with delicious treats like chocolate eggs and bunnies. While these are fun for us, they can be very dangerous for dogs! ⚠️

We noticed a large number of our patients visited the emergency vet last year on Christmas and Boxing day due to chocolate ingestion. With Easter coming up, here are a few safety tips to help keep your furry friends safe and avoid an unexpected trip to the after-hours vet while we are closed over the Easter weekend.”

• Keep Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies, and candy well out of reach of dogs.
• Remind children not to share their treats with pets
• Check gardens carefully for any missed hidden chocolate if you’re hosting an Easter egg hunt. During the hunt it is advised to lock your dog away somewhere safe untill all the chocolate has been found.

Chocolate has chemicals dogs can’t process. Those chemicals build up and will overstimulate their heart and nervous system, which may cause vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, a racing heart, seizures, and in severe cases, death🐕🍫🚫

⚠️ If your dog eats chocolate, contact your veterinarian immediately. The sooner treatment begins, the better the outcome.⚠️

Dr Fang is in clinic every Monday, providing advanced in-house surgical referral services. He has extensive experience in orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery and is a graduate of Massey University and South China Agricultural University.

Having Dr Fang in clinic allows us to maintain continuity of care and keep your pet’s treatment close to home, supported by the veterinary team you already know and trust.

Did you know? Dr Fang performs over 150 orthopaedic procedures each year, including many complex sport-related injury repairs.

Fun fact: Dr Fang has a keen interest in woodworking — which may explain his appreciation for precision tools, structural stability, and perfectly placed screws.

Our next puppy class starts on the 7th of April . If your pup will be 10 - 16 weeks old and has had their first vaccination by the time the class starts, get in touch to join this fun and educational socialization class.

Give your pup the best start with fun, positive training that builds essential skills while allowing plenty of time to make new furry friends! Our classes focus on confidence, good manners, and happy socialising in a safe, supportive environment. Perfect for growing great habits from day one!

Our next class starts on Tuesday, 17th February, from 6:45 pm to 7:45 pm. The full course runs for five weeks and finishes with a graduation at the final class.
If your pup will be between 10–16 weeks old and has had their first vacation when the course begins, give us a call to secure your spot, price and additional information available upon request.

Found near Pitt park today. Owner details not current on microchip registration. We are keeping in the clinic overnight. Celebrating 20 years of business ownership today. After starting at Cahill Animal Hospital in 1993 I am now looking after my 3rd generation of clients and their pets. I have got to work with some fantastic team members and met lots of amazing people in this job. Thank you to my family & friends, work colleagues (both within our team & external colleagues) and my clients for all your support over the years. I am fortunate to be doing a job that I love and being able to help people and their pets.
