Calling all budding young photographers - our SPCA Kids' Photography Competition is on now! 📸🏆️

There are five different age categories, and a $100 PB Tech gift voucher for the winner of each category. On top of that, the overall winner will take home a massive $300 PB Tech voucher! 🤑

This year's theme is 'Animals Loving Life'. Think pets relaxing, farm animals grazing, animals playing or resting, or wildlife exploring. Your photo can be of any animal, as long as it shows them feeling comfortable, safe, and happy.

Get ready bakers - and anyone with a sweet tooth – SPCA Cupcake Day is returning on Wednesday 16 September, and registration is now OPEN! 🧁

It'll be our sweetest fundraiser of the year, with all profits going back to the care of thousands of abused, neglected and vulnerable animals across Aotearoa 🩵 What better reason to dust off your apron, and grab your piping bags?

Getting involved is easy:

A huge thank you to The Honest Whisker for volunteering their time to photograph some of our incredible dogs and puppies. These beautiful photos really capture just how special they are.

Foxie, Artemis, and Ares are still waiting for someone to choose them. They've been so patient, and we'd love nothing more than to see them heading off to their forever homes.

There are also some new, adorable faces who have just begun looking for their families too!

A huge thank you to OM Massage Therapy for your generous donation, Regional Health School for thinking of the animals in our care, and a special shout-out to Abigail, who is completing her William Pike Challenge by bagging up pet food parcels for our Community Pet Food Bank. What an amazing way to give back!🐾

Last Friday, our SPCA team also loaded up the van and headed to Pakata Kai to hand out Community Pet Food Bank. Thanks to your support, we were able to help feed more than 60 animals and support the families who love them.

Every donation and every act of kindness makes a real difference. Thank you for being part of our community! 🐶🐱💙

🚨 Cat Carriers Needed! 🚨

We're running low on carriers, and they're something we rely on every single day to safely transport cats and kittens to and from vet visits, foster homes, etc...

If you have a clean, sturdy carrier that is in good condition that you no longer use, we'd be so grateful if you'd consider donating it. Every carrier makes a huge difference and helps us keep our feline friends safe and comfortable.

If you'd like to donate, please give us a call on 06 357 2516 or drop your carrier into our SPCA centre at 93 Napier Road, Palmerston North. Our opening hours are Monday - Saturday from 10am-3pm.

🐾 MICROCHIP SPECIAL INCOMING! 🐾
Because there's no place like home.

A microchip is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help your pet find their way home if they ever become lost.

In 2025, the SPCA Palmerston North Centre cared for over 1,100 cats and kittens. Sadly, the vast majority were either not microchipped or had out-of-date owner details. As a result, fewer than 5% were reunited with their families.

We want to help keep your furry friends where they belong.

Throughout August, we're offering microchipping for just $15 for:
🐱 Cats (from 7 weeks of age)
🐶 Dogs (from 7 weeks of age)
🐰 Rabbits

There are no eligibility criteria, all we ask is that our staff can safely handle your furry friend during the procedure.

⏱️ Appointments take around 10 minutes. Ten minutes today could save a lifetime of grief if your beloved pet ever goes missing.

A microchip lasts a lifetime, but it's only effective if your contact details are kept up to date. If your pet is already microchipped, you can update your details at any time through the New Zealand Companion Animal Register (NZCAR) to help ensure they can be reunited with you as quickly as possible.

💙🐱 70 cats vaccinated !!!!

Another successful day providing Vaccinations for the cats in our community! We are so grateful to have been able to bring this event to community members and their beloved felines!

Special thanks to our Zoeitis for sponsoring the vaccinations and thanks to our wonderful Vet (who you might recognise from Massey SPCA Desexing Clinic !) and Vet student volunteers, without them we would not have been able to achieve this.

We would also like to thank the participants for registering to get their beloved felines vaccinated.

This was an amazing event and we are looking forward to more in the future! 💙🐱
