One sunny July, the LA vets were so impatient for Spring to arrive that they set up a mock calving in the carpark. Despite Karenโ€™s initial concern, this team building exercise was highly successful ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ
Now that Spring has arrived, everyone is enjoying the early starts, late nights and joy of delivering lambs and calves.
We are all looking forward to the sun returning!!

Today is National Check the Chip Day! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ˜บ

Register or update your pet's microchip details on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register today!

Microchips are a great bit of tech that reunites pets and owners every day. BUT to be most effective, chips need to be registered against up-to-date contact details.

Itโ€™s been great catching up with our farmers over the last few weeks helping trouble shoot spring challenges such as calvings, down cows and dislocated hips. Below are a few tips from our vets based on what they are seeing and chatting about

1. When fitting calving chains/ropes, please use the double hitch - a loop above the fetlock and one below. This allows force to be evenly spread and avoids broken legs. It also makes the pull easier!

2. When submitting calf scour samples please bring them in a jar. If you bring samples in in gloves or plastic bags we will ask you to transfer these into specimen jars. Make sure you collect a few pottles when next passing

3. Calf milk is only for calves! Many calf powders contain coccidiostats which are toxic to dogs and can be fatal. Please avoid feeding left over milk to dogs or letting them lick buckets or calf feeders.
