This is Pearl. Pearl was one of our orphan lambs many years ago. She was raised by the neighbours daughter for calf club. She was given back to us after calf club to be put back with our small flock. She stayed with the flock for a number of years having her own lambs but always remained a pet. Especially when she saw the chooks being fed. She loved chook food. She would sit on it so the chooks couldn’t get it or bunt them out of the way. Over time the other sheep left but Pearl stayed. She knew when it was time to feed the chooks and if I was late I would hear her baa as if to tell me to hurry up. When our granddaughters came to stay she would eat out of their hand. It was their introduction to one of their Grandmothers (Minnie’s) odd pets. Sadly though, as with most pets, they get old and sick and this time I couldn’t bring her back so had to make the call to say goodbye. I will miss her. Feeding the chooks just isn’t the same anymore.
