Children's Horsemanship Experience and Pony Time!
Please share!!

Hi, I’m Lina, a 15 year old horse trainer based in Maheno. I have spent the last five years growing more and more passionate about bringing greater awareness and knowledge around the way we work with our horses to the younger generation.
I am offering learning-filled horsemanship experiences and lessons for kids. An open minded and fun space dedicated to upskilling, fun and learning the ‘about’, ‘why’ and ‘how’ of horses.
I do want to note that these are not riding lessons, and while some riding may be done at a later date, I currently don't have any horses suited for riding lessons.

This is aimed at children aged between 8 and 15.
My hope is to give children a fun and adventures space to learn hands on, experience, and be around horses. Introducing them to the incredible things horses have to offer without having to ride them. Bringing hands-on experience and learning to their journey with horses. Skills that will last them a lifetime. Meeting and upskilling from wherever they are.

REGULAR SESSIONS:
These are regular lessons held at our farm in Maheno. Days and times catered to you.
I hope for these regular lessons to meet them exactly where you are, and progress from there.
Whether they are completely new to horses, just want the opportunity to be around them, or already have some experience around horses, this is a place to learn in a fun environment, and upskill from wherever you are.
In these sessions we will discuss the ways we communicate with our horses and how that impacts everything we do with them, what our horses need to thrive physically and so much more. From first touches, tackling obstacles courses, exploring different farms with our fluffy companions, and all the behind the scenes horse care that no one ever sees.
These sessions will be constantly building on each other and aim to incorporate off the property trips with the horses and many engaging challenges for both horses and kids.

ONE OF SESSIONS:
Life gets crazy busy sometimes, so for those who can’t make regular sessions work, one of lessons here and there are also available.
These lessons will largely follow the same pattern as the regular sessions, but will be geared a bit more towards learning more about general horse knowledge, less time spent on discussions, and more on giving the student fun, challenges and new experiences with the horses. Pony makeovers, obstacles courses, led adventures etc.
And while these will still build on each other, the timeline will just be extended.
A great birthday or Christmas present experience!

I am very open to requests and questions, please get in touch!

This Jimmy, our very old family dog. He spends most of his time sleeping but always comes out for a rub every time we bring the horses out to the arena.
Always nice to see such a cute fluffy face!

I thought I would do a little catch up on everything that's been going down my end, of course horsey centered 😉
It's been almost three months since I got back from spending five weeks in Taupo, and I want to start by saying how grateful I am to have had that experience for a second time. I came home with so many new ideas and a lot of new skills to bring to my own horses.
Nightcap, who was mustered in early June has also come a long way since then.
The original plan wasn't to keep Nightcap long term, but since just a few weeks ago, I am very excited to say that that has changed. He is such a cool little man!
The last few weeks have been especially fun as he has become more and more comfortable around humans, starting to let his very curious and 'go with the flow' personality shine through. Recently, Nightcap had his first trip to the beach, completely exceeding my expectations with how quickly he relaxed and ended up basically swimming in the freezing ocean. My feet were very numb by the end of an hour!!!
He has been an incredibly fun pony to have around, the plan for the next few weeks being to finish his rugging (just as spring is here of course), and get him on a few more trips out and about. Looking forward to sharing some longer videos of his training soon!

The last few weeks have been very busy so unfortunately Arlo and Nightcap haven't been getting all the attention... But I am very excited to be on the look out for my two year old (born in domestication) Kaimanawa c**t Arlos, new person. So if you or someone you know might be interested, please get in touch! And so, he has been enjoying his time off, with daily scratches, which he loves!
Kaala, who is now almost four, has been my main focus these last months.
I began starting her under saddle at the beginning of March, and with a lot of time of here and there, we have been taking it slow. I have spent the last few weeks taking her on a lot of short hacks and very basic flatwork sessions. She has been incredibly confident throughout her training which I think has made a lot of things similar and is now at a very fun stage in her training.
I'm hoping to get her out to the beach in the near future and getting her out and about a bit more. We also have some local low level Working Equitation days coming up which my plan is to ride her at.
She is a horse I am incredibly grateful to have in my life!

Photo dump that basically sums up the last few weeks 😄

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday!!

Wise words!

✨Because good horsemanship isn’t about knowing everything.

It’s noticing more, questioning yourself, improving your timing, learning new skills and being willing to change when your horse tells you something isn’t working.

You don’t have to become perfect for your horse.

Just keep becoming better.

That’s exactly what we do inside Get Good With Horses Skool - practical horsemanship, groundwork, liberty, riding, bridleless, behaviour, confidence and so much more.

Rug practice with Nightcap this afternoon. Of course I only realized the rug was actually a bit small for him once I'd done up half the straps 😄 He was an absolute angel, even with all my fumbling around!
Planning on doing a more in depth update on everything going on here at the moment soon 🤞

2 YEAR OLD C**T LOOKING FOR HIS NEW POSTCODE!
Arlo, 2-year-old Kaimanawa c**t (gelded), born in domestication, 13 hands (home measured), at this point. Based in Maheno, North Otago. His mother is about 14 hands at 4 years old.
Arlo has shown some very exciting jumping potential along with a very curious and brave outlook on life and new experiences.
He is easy and confident being caught in a large paddock, being tied up, brushed all over, held and have his hooves trimmed regularly, wear a rug, walk and trot on the lead, wear a surcingle, lunge over obstacles at a walk and trot and loads onto a straight float well. He has also had two of the property trips to the beach.
Arlo is now at a point in his training where I feel he would thrive in a new family, in saying that the right home is important to us and will trump overall.
He has been a very uncomplicated pony and I’m sure will be someone's heart horse!

Yesterday morning Nightcap had his very first trip to our local ocean beach, with Arlo tagging along for his second trip of the property.
With sunrise just having passed, it was a gorgeous morning for a splash in the ocean and a lovely walk down the beach, though that was cut short by a very big seal blocking the way.
Nightcap was incredibly brave and took to the ocean like a fish to water! Even with high tide coming closer he was confidently walking through the chest high waves and enjoying some salt water sips.
Arlo, while it was his second time at the beach, was still quite wary of the waves coming towards him but had a great time splashing in the still lagoon water.
It was so good to see them both having a nice roll in the softer sand and relaxing into this new experience so quickly! Really looking forward to another trip soon!
