The happiness of these furry friends keeps us smiling. 🐾🥰

As the sun starts to set on Abbeyblyth, if you have a booking for post-20 April then you should have received a confirmation that the booking is cancelled. We know it's hard to find good care and sincerely hope you can make alternative arrangements for your loved ones.

We're also aware that the PetManager customer portal hasn't been showing recently made payments after our systems were wilfully unlinked. The good news is we regained control of our accounting systems last week all payments will be reconciled soon (if yours hasn't been already).

In the kennels and cattery all is well. Especially as this weather makes for great play conditions! 🥎

By now, you may have heard the upsetting news that Abbeyblyth Animal Boarding is winding down.

Sadly, this means we cannot accept new bookings or commit to any care after 20 April 2026. We know the impact this has because it's so important to have trusted care for your pets, and we're truly sorry this is happening.

All customers have been emailed, but for those who haven't seen the email yet, I want to share a brief message here and answer some questions we've been receiving.

Last week, the High Court appointed an interim liquidator to manage the company's affairs due to serious governance matters involving one of the directors. The interim liquidator has assessed the situation and recommended a gradual wind-down of the business.

Please be assured, the director responsible is no longer involved in Abbeyblyth operations and he will not be returning to the property.

The kennels and cattery are running as normal during this period. Our team is providing the same high standard of care, cuddles, and playtime your pets have always enjoyed with us.

I also want to say a big thank you for your support and understanding. The kindness we've received this week from customers has been very moving. The Abbeyblyth community is a special one.

We are aware of concerns, but please know the team are providing the same level of care that you and your pets expect from us. All cats and dogs with us are doing wonderfully, and daily life at Abbeyblyth is running smoothly. 😊

If you recently made a payment intended for us that appears as “Mountain Bike Nelson Limited” on your bank records or that went to another BNZ account, please know we are treating your payment as received. The liquidator is handling the recovery of those funds; you do not need to take any action.

We're still working to get EFTPOS facilities restored and will invoice you for payment to the correct ANZ account in the meantime.

Abbeyblyth Animal Boarding

If your pup needs company during the day, we've got good news! We're opening up a limited number of day-stay spots at Abbeyblyth. 🐕🌞

We have two new slots available each day Monday - Friday from the middle of January. If you're interested, now is the perfect time to get in touch so we can run through introductions and onboarding.

A day at Abbeyblyth is designed to give your dog plenty of enrichment, exercise, and care:

🐶 Drop-off (8am - 10am): Your dog will be welcomed and introduced to their playgroup for the day.

🥎 The morning includes supervised socialising with other dogs in our large outdoor areas and fun activities like fetch.

🥣 Lunch and Rest: We provide high-quality food, or we can serve pre-portioned meals you bring from home, followed by some quiet downtime to recharge.

🥰 In the afternoon it's all go again with more group play and time with our staff.

👋 Pick-up (3pm - 6pm): Your dog will be ready to greet you at the end of the day feeling happy and well cared for.

These spots will fill up quickly, so please email us with your dog’s details (name, breed, age, and temperament) and which days you’d like them to attend.

It’s been a great month for us here at Abbeyblyth.

As you can see, it’s been a lot of fun getting to know our guests. 🐶🐱

A massive thank you goes to Heather and Tay for the amazing handover and all their hard work. We couldn’t have asked for a smoother transition and together they made this the special place it is today.

We’re also super grateful for our awesome team who do a fantastic job keeping the animals happy and well cared for.

Despite wild weather across the country, all is well here at Abbeyblyth. 🐶😸💛

Like the rest of Nelson, we had an unexpected power outage this morning. A good test of our systems! It came back on well before the lunchtime feeds.

If you’re caught by road closures or ferry/flight cancellations, please don’t stress. Everyone here is safe and happy. We’re making the most of breaks in the weather for fresh air and a good play.

Over and out! Thank you to everyone for your messages, emails, gifts and kind words, it's been an absolute pleasure to have you all as part of the Abbeyblyth whānau. We are going to miss everyone very much, particularly all the furry and feathered babies. We hope to see you out and about, or back here in the carpark as clients! Please say hi if you see us.

A massive thank you to all our staff, past and present, some of whom have been with us for quite a number of years now. You know how to work hard and have fun doing it. Love you guys! We're going to miss you all.

We genuinely wish Nathan and Nicole all the very best for the future, we are thrilled to have found who we believe to be the perfect next owners 😀
