Over the years ‘Todd’ our clinic tabby has become well known as he basks in attention at the reception desk. ‘Poppa Todd’ often comforts patients and kittens in the hospital; he does such an awesome job that he has his own employment contract signed in ‘paw’.

A big thank you to our clients and our amazing team!

The last few weeks have been a tough one, with at times 50% of our team away sick. We really appreciate everyone’s patience if your appointment has been moved, you’ve seen a different vet, non-urgent care has taken a little longer, or your prescription has been delayed.

A huge thank you to our team for continuing to keep things moving and making sure our sick and sore pets were still looked after.

And a special thank you to our casuals Annie, Lisa and Jo, and our locum vet Bridgette, for jumping in at short notice. You have been absolute godsends! 🙏

We’re so grateful for everyone’s patience and understanding. ☺️

A second case of H5 bird flu has been detected in New Zealand. This is a highly contagious disease that affects birds including, chickens, pet birds, ducks, and our native birds.

If you find sick or dead birds outside:

- Please don’t touch or move them.
- Keep children and pets well away.
- Please do not bring sick wild birds into the clinic. We need to prioritise and keep our patients, clients and staff safe.

If your own bird appears sick or is unwell, please call the clinic on (06) 8442009 before bringing it into the clinic

If you find three or more dead or sick birds within the same area, please call the MPI Exotic Pest and Disease Hotline on 0800 80 99 66.

The hotline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

A quick heads up for our wonderful clients

Wow, June already! Must be because we have all had plague - finally we are all feeling much better 🙃

We’ve had some exciting milestones and learning opportunities to celebrate at the clinic recently.

🎉 Kaitlyn has now been with us for a whole year!
🎉 And tomorrow, Emily celebrates an incredible 3 years with our team!

We’re so proud of both of them and the dedication they show to their professional development.

Recently, kaitlyn, Emily, and Amy all attended an anaesthesia course through our Veterinary Training centre, further expanding their skills and knowledge to help provide the very best care for your pets.

Learning never stops here! 📚

👏 Claire, our Head Nurse, has recently completed a pathology course, enhancing her knowledge in laboratory diagnostics.

👏 Heather has completed an advanced dentistry course through the KahuVet Education Centre, helping us continue to provide high-quality dental care for our patients.

👏 Linda is currently completing online workshops in ophthalmology and ultrasound, further developing her expertise in these important areas of veterinary medicine.

🐱 A special shout-out to Natasha and Kaitlyn, who have been busy hand-rearing two tiny kittens from day one. The darker one started out black and is now fully frosted - such an I unusual coat.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have a team that is passionate about ongoing education, exceptional patient care, and going the extra mile for animals in need. Investing in our team’s knowledge means we can continue to provide the best possible care for the pets and families who trust us with their health.

Today we celebrate an incredible milestone — 20 years of Dr. Linda Welch at Taradale Vets

Many of our clients will know Linda through consults, surgeries, emergency call-outs, or simply the calm and caring way she looks after both pets and their people. Over the past 20 years, Linda has been an invaluable part of our clinic

Linda truly is an all-rounder veterinarian — exceptional in medicine, highly skilled in complex medical cases, and an incredibly talented surgeon. She has dedicated countless hours to caring for animals, including after-hours work, weekends, and emergencies

Linda and I have personally worked together for 16/17 years - and boy have we got some stories, Linda I feel so lucky to work along side you 🙂
