GOLDEN EDGE “HARPER”
2021 Buckskin Mare | 153.5cm
By Golden Strike (imp. Germany) out of Voyair, Harper is a quality young mare with plenty of presence, lovely movement and the versatility to head down either the dressage or jumping path.
Harper was bred at Arbek Pony Stud and has been produced slowly and correctly. She has only just turned 5 and, with a young toddler keeping me busy, she certainly hasn’t been drilled or had an intensive competition schedule. She is generally ridden around 3 times a week and has occasionally had several weeks off — she comes back into work without fuss and just gets on with the job.
She is currently schooling 80cm at home, showing plenty of scope and ability, and on the flat is established in the basics and beginning lateral work including leg yield.
While she hasn’t been taken to countless shows, everything she has been out and done she has been AWESOME. Her outings and exposure so far include a ribbon day, a couple of A&P Shows and taking part in a Bill Noble demonstration and dressage practice days.
Harper was assessed through NZWA as a young horse, receiving an overall score of 75.5%, including an impressive 81.25% for conformation.
At home she is a lovely horse to have around — easy to handle, straightforward with her day-to-day care and an enjoyable young horse to work with. Like many young horses, Harper can show some anxiety at times, particularly in new situations, but this continues to improve with exposure and confidence. She has matured hugely and continues to get better and better.
Harper would best suit a capable teenager or smaller adult who wants a quality young horse to continue producing. At 153.5cm, she is a fantastic size for someone wanting a competitive horse without needing something huge.
Please keep in mind that Harper is 5, She is an easy, sensible and well-educated young horse with a very good foundation. She needs a rider capable of continuing her education and giving her the confidence and mileage that comes with age and experience.
For complete transparency, Harper had colic surgery for an intussusception at 5 months old. I am very happy to discuss her history with genuinely interested buyers; however, if previous colic surgery is something you wouldn't consider when purchasing a horse, then Harper won't be the right horse for you.
Beautiful buckskin colouring, quality conformation, good movement, jumping ability and a lovely trainable foundation — she is a very hard type to find.
