Tom Quilty #9. What a road trip. Two and a half days..1600k to Stirling Crossing Queensland. An amazing endurance complex set against the Imbil forest. The normal pre ride vetting and then a crazy strappers race where everyone races for a strapping spot. We were squashed in with horses up close on all sides.
I must say Aussies do it different.
There was 220 horses circling for the start. Could not be prouder of Prince who took it all calmly and even made the poster boy photo for the start. The ride was 160km of tough hard and stoney forestry tracks. I made the tough decision at 144km, with one loop to go to withdraw. The welfare of my horse will always come first.
I must say the speed and toughness of Aussie horses trained over rocky ground was impressive.
Then the two day 1600km trip back to NSW.
Prince took everything in his stride from the flight, road journey, ride base with vehicles and camp sites and exhibitors, mass start and 220 horses on track. He looked amazing when we got back to NSW. Couldn’t be prouder of how he represented Supreme Arabians Endurance Stud.
A final thank you to Pip Ireland who hosted and transported use around Aussie and the New Strappers who assisted.

Tom Quilty Journey #7

Both my self and Prince Eligani SPA flew into Sydney on Tuesday. We’re on a 9000ha station near Harden in NSW for a week until we head north to Imbil Queensland.
Prince has had a couple of training rides to get use to the Kangaroos and wildlife.

Not all my training is done in the saddle
Prince loves racing the atv. If he loses he gets grumpy and tries to bite it. I let him win this time and he shows off with excitement.

Endurance training in the King Country through winter with an average rainfall here of 2 metres a season is not ideal.
Quite often think allot of horse people are a bit nuts, but out training in this weather I reckon some endurance riders are certainly at the top of the list.
