SPCA Gisborne Centre Formed in 1957, the Gisborne SPCA Centre covers a large area of the East Coast, stretching from Wairoa in the south to Hicks Bay in the north.

Mikey absolutely loves people and is dreaming of finding that special someone he can bond with, who will shower him with all the love, cuddles and attention his heart desires. He’s a sweet boy who just wants someone to call his own and a family to spend the rest of his life with. 🐶💕

Shrimp & Squid are on the lookout for their forever families — preferably ones who are prepared for zoomies, kitten mischief, questionable life choices and approximately 7,000 photos a day. 📸🐾

Missing a tail, but certainly NOT missing the ability to wrap you around her little paw! 😂🐾

Lilac had to have her tail amputated after an injury, but she hasn’t let that slow her down one bit. In fact, she seems to have decided that if she can’t wag her tail at you, she’ll just climb onto your lap and smother you with cuddles instead! 🥰

If you’re living alone and looking for a little companion who will happily keep you company, listen to all your problems, and probably occupy your entire lap… Lilac would like to submit her application. 😂💜

🎃👻 TRICK OR TREAT?! 👻🎃

Meet Franken Cat & Jacky O’Lantern 🖤🐈‍⬛ — our spooky little duo looking for their very own house to call home.

🎃 These two are definitely not the first ones to answer the door on Halloween! 👻

They’re looking for a quiet home where they can take things at their own pace. They’re a little shy and may take some time to settle in, but with patience, love and each other by their side, we’re confident they’ll come out of their shells together. 🖤🐈‍⬛

Other cats? TRICK! 👻 They’re not exactly fans and would probably prefer to be the only cats in the house. But each other? TREAT! 🥰 They get along beautifully and would love to be adopted together.

So if you’re looking for double the fluff, double the mischief and double the Halloween magic, these two little gremlins could be the perfect pair. 🎃🖤 🍬🐾

UPDATE 1/10/2026: We are now FULLY BOOKED for dogs in all locations. We still have space for cats in Tolaga Bay and Te Karaka only (Ruatoria fully booked). If you would like your cat desexed in Tolaga Bay or Te Karaka, please register via the link in the post. Please do not call our Gisborne Centre for bookings. Thank you!

Our SPCA Mobile Desexing Clinic is heading to the East Cape! 💙

Over the coming weeks, we'll be offering free desexing and microchipping for cats and dogs for struggling pet owners in Te Karaka, Tolaga Bay, and Ruatoria. We know that times are tough right now, and we'd like to do what we can to help 🙏

SPCA has been working hard over the years to address the overpopulation of companion animals - many are born unwanted, and we know that desexing is one of the best things we can do to improve animal welfare, reduce the numbers of strays, and prevent suffering.

Our schedule is as follows:
📅 Te Karaka - Monday 12 October – Friday 16 October
📅 Tolaga Bay – Monday 19 October – Friday 23 October
📅 Ruatoria – Tuesday 27 October – Friday 30 October

Though our desexing services will be free, we would greatly appreciate a koha so that we can continue offering more of these initiatives in the future.

One day shy of 100 days in our care, our lovely boy Darcy has finally found his forever family! 🥹

We are SO incredibly happy for you, Darcy. You deserve nothing but love, happiness and a family who will adore you, and we know you’ve found exactly that. ❤️

A huge thank you to Darcy’s lovely new family, who came in to meet him today. They actually met Darcy two months ago, but decided to come back and see him again today. When they realised he was still here, they thought, “If he’s still here, maybe it’s meant to be.”

And it absolutely was. 🥹❤️

As they said themselves… Darcy chose them. 🐾

After 99 days of waiting, it seems our boy knew exactly where he was meant to go. We couldn’t be happier for you, Darcy. Go live your best life, handsome boy! ❤️🏡

Come along and meet some of our amazing dogs and pups looking for their forever homes! 🏡❤️ We have SO many canines available for adoption, and these are just 4 of the many waiting for their families!

If you’re coming along with the intention of adopting, please let our team know so we can prioritise adoption meet-and-greets. We absolutely LOVE seeing our dogs get plenty of love and attention, but tomorrow our main focus is helping these deserving dogs find their forever homes. ❤️
