Spring Grooming Tips
Spring is the perfect time to refresh your pet's grooming routine. As the weather warms up, many dogs and cats begin to shed their thick winter coats, making regular brushing more important than ever.

Brushing helps remove loose hair before it ends up around your home, while also preventing painful mats and tangles from forming - especially in long-haired breeds. It also improves air circulation through the coat and distributes natural oils, helping to keep your pet's skin and coat healthy and shiny.

Regular grooming is also a great opportunity to check your pet for lumps, bumps, parasites, cuts, or skin irritations that may otherwise go unnoticed. Catching these problems early can make treatment much easier.

Don't forget about the rest of your pet's grooming needs. Check nails regularly, as overgrown nails can become uncomfortable and affect the way your pet walks. Cleaning around the eyes and ears, where appropriate, can also help prevent irritation and infection.

Spring is the perfect time to get the garden looking its best, but many common lawn and garden products can be harmful to pets.

Fertilisers, w**d sprays, insecticides, and especially snail and slug bait can cause serious illness if eaten or absorbed through your pet's paws. Signs of poisoning may include vomiting, drooling, tremors, seizures, or difficulty breathing.

To reduce the risk, always store garden products securely, follow the manufacturer's instructions, keep pets away from treated areas until they are safe to re-enter, and clean up any spills straight away.

If you think your pet has come into contact with a lawn or garden chemical, contact your veterinary clinic immediately. If possible, bring the product packaging with you, as this can help your veterinary team provide the most appropriate treatment.

A few simple precautions can help ensure your garden remains a safe place for every member of the family - especially the four-legged ones.

Meet Toni and Fred 🐾

Fred is the much-loved big dog of our vet nurse, Toni. Fred has made a big impact during his younger years, coming to the rescue on many occasions to donate blood.
These days, Fred is taking things a little easier after being diagnosed with hypothyroidism 2 years ago, as well as suffering from skin issues. With daily medication, regular monitoring, and plenty of love and cuddles from his family, he’s continuing to enjoy life to the fullest. As a vet nurse, Toni knows just how important it is to keep a close eye on Fred’s health and make sure he gets the care he needs.
