Looking for someone to help at Matamata race track in the mornings, 4 hours a morning, from 5 am, six days a week. The job would be saddling, hosing, brushing, and rugging up. Some mornings would be at the home property, putting horses on the walker and mucking out, and also helping at the races on occasion.

It was patience that provided connections of Wolfgang a memorable day at Trentham when he overpowered his opposition in the Gr.3 NZCIS Wellington Cup 🤩

After 13 attempts at Group or Listed level, the spotlight finally shone on Wolfgang, giving trainers Peter and Shaun McKay a well-deserved victory.

Patiently ridden by Joe Doyle in the saddle, Wolfgang went outside at the home turn and powered to the lead with 200m to go, winning by a length and a half.
