🦷 Meet Major — our very good senior gentleman 🐾
Major came into Vetcare for a major dental and senior health overhaul. ❤️
As an older bulldog, we wanted his procedure to be carefully planned and comfortable from beginning to end. Major received IV fluids, monitoring, a thorough dental procedure and multiple dental extractions to remove painful, unhealthy teeth.
And importantly , great dentistry includes great pain control.
Dental disease hurts. Tooth extractions involve the gums, periodontal tissues, bone and sensitive nerves around the tooth roots. We don’t believe pets should simply “put up with” that pain.
Major’s pain management included local dental nerve blocks, like the one pictured, alongside appropriate anaesthesia and systemic pain relief. Local anaesthetic blocks numb the nerves supplying the teeth and jaw, reducing pain during surgery and providing comfort into the recovery period.
The aim isn’t simply to get the teeth out.
It’s to have our patient wake up comfortable. 🩺❤️
And Major certainly embraced his pain relief. 😂
The final photo was taken on the trip home — stoned at the vets and contemplating his life choices. 😵💫🐶
But the best part came the following morning when his owner sent us these gorgeous photos and this message:
“Good morning Miss Heidi. I’ve had steak for tea and breakfast 🤭 I’ve had a great night and I’m very chipper despite having no toofs.”
😂❤️ No toofs. No worries. Steak for breakfast.
Removing diseased teeth doesn’t make an old dog miserable. Quite often, once that chronic dental pain is gone, families realise just how much their pet had been quietly tolerating.
Senior doesn’t mean too old for good dentistry.
Senior means we plan carefully, monitor carefully and control pain properly.
Well done, Major. Enjoy that steak, handsome boy. 🥩🐾❤️
