☀️🐴 MORNING RIDES, HAPPY HORSES & SUMMER IS ON ITS WAY! 🐴☀️
I started my morning with a lovely ride on our OTTB, I Love Lucy 💕 There’s nothing quite like getting out early, enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time with these amazing horses.
One of the best things about mornings like this is seeing all the horses so relaxed, happy and enjoying the sunshine. 🥰 Watching them quietly graze, soak up the good weather and just be horses is such a lovely reminder of why we do what we do!
But if this weather is anything to go by, we could be in for a LONG, HOT SUMMER! 🌞🥵 So now is the perfect time to start thinking about keeping both ourselves and our four-legged friends cool and comfortable.
🐴💦 OUR TOP TIPS FOR BEATING THE HEAT!
☀️ Get up early! Ride and exercise your horse during the cooler parts of the day, and reduce the intensity when temperatures climb.
💧 Water, water, water! Make sure your horse always has access to plenty of clean, fresh drinking water. Check troughs regularly, especially on hot days.
🚿 Cool them down properly! After exercise, use cool water to help lower their body temperature, and keep checking that they are comfortable.
🌳 Find some shade! Ensure horses have access to shade and shelter, and remember that good airflow is important too.
🧂 Don't forget electrolytes! Horses that sweat heavily may need their electrolyte needs considered, alongside plenty of fresh water. Always follow appropriate feeding advice.
👒 Look after yourself, too! Wear sunscreen, a hat and light clothing, drink plenty of water and take breaks. We need to stay cool if we're going to look after our horses properly!
❤️ And most importantly, know when to call it a day. If it's too hot for a comfortable ride, there's absolutely nothing wrong with giving your horse a quieter day.
At Panorama Equestrian, our horses' comfort and wellbeing always come first. Let's hope for a beautiful summer, with plenty of sunshine, happy horses and lots of wonderful mornings in the saddle! 🐎💛
