This dog's name was gunner my uncle brought him back from WW2 he was raised and slept under my uncle's anti-aircraft gun. The gun crew shared their rations to feed him. By the time he was 18 months old, my uncle said he would stand up and look at the sky. If he layed back down they knew all was ok. If he growled and put his hackles up they got at the ready. He knew the sound of the German aircraft and my uncle said he never got it wrong. He said gunner was better than any early warning system. I’m probably the only one left in the family that knows that story now so I thought I’d tell it before it’s lost forever like many stories must be from that time. Thanks for reading it.

Rethink about dog training

📣I AM A DOG TRAINER & MY DOG WENT THROUGH THE TRASH📣

Did I tell him off? Of course not.
Did i tell myself off? Hell yeah, and I paid for it at the vet too! Geez, you'd think I'd learn by now!!??

Do I trust my dog? Yup. I trust him to do dog things.

"Why don't you train your dog not to go in the bin"
Because it's easier for me to put the bin on top of the counter when I leave. When i remember... 🙄

I have a million things i want to teach Jedi. Staying out of the bin when I'm not around is not even on the list.

Dog training, isnt just about "training". There are many other important pieces of the pie. Like management, avoidance, enrichment & wellbeing. Managing the environment so unwanted behaviours don't get practiced is a big one.

Aka: If you know your dog might find the plate of burnt cookies in the bin attractive, put the bin awaaaay (or put them in the outside bin... I'm talking to myself here) 🙃

I encourage you all not to get too disheartened when you see your dog do dog stuff. It's part of owning an animal.
Telling them off after they've done it doesn't make sense to them. 📣 They have no sense of right & wrong, nor can they feel guilt📣

💭Make a mental note for next time OR figure out how you can eliminate access to whatever it is while you train, or not train. Whatever works for you. Either way, it's never the dogs fault :)
