HEALTHY HOOVES ARE THE FOUNDATION OF A HEALTHY HORSE! 👍
Good hoof care is so much more than simply trimming or shoeing a horse. It is about understanding the entire horse and how everything works together.
Over the years of working with horses I have learned just how important the relationship between hoof balance, biomechanics, movement and overall musculoskeletal health really is.
A small imbalance within the hoof can influence the way a horse moves and distributes its weight. Over time this may contribute to additional strain through the joints, tendons, ligaments and the rest of the body.
And this is exactly why I believe that working alongside knowledgeable and experienced professionals is so incredibly important!
Today I would love to introduce someone who has been a very special part of our journey for the past eight years. Our wonderful farrier Chris Green.
Chris has been looking after our own team of horses and many of our clients' horses here in Canterbury for the past eight years.
It has been an amazing journey working alongside him and sharing our knowledge and experiences.
His understanding of hoof anatomy, balance, corrective farriery and the individual needs of each horse is something I deeply appreciate.
Chris brings an incredible amount of experience and professionalism to his work. His dedication to helping horses become more comfortable and move better is something we value enormously.
Over the years we have worked with horses experiencing all sorts of challenges. From arthritic changes and hoof imbalances to more complicated rehabilitation cases.
Having a professional like Chris by our side makes such a difference.
We are incredibly proud to have him as part of our team and very grateful for everything he does for our horses and clients!
▪︎ SO WHERE DOES OUR ACTIVOMED HOOFBOOT FIT INTO ALL OF THIS?
One of the things I love about equine rehabilitation is that we have so many different ways to support the horse when we combine traditional knowledge with modern technology.
Our Activomed Hoofboot allows us to apply Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) around the hoof and lower limb.
The hoof is a fascinating structure. Inside that hard outer hoof capsule we have an incredibly complex network of bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, blood vessels and sensitive tissues.
All of these structures need to work together to support healthy movement.
When a horse develops discomfort or an injury within these structures it can affect the entire way the horse moves.
▪︎PEMF THERAPY AND HOOF HEALTH
PEMF therapy uses pulsed electromagnetic fields that interact with biological tissues. Research is investigating how these fields may influence cellular activity, inflammatory responses and pain.
Our Activomed Hoofboot can be incorporated as a complementary therapy for horses dealing with conditions such as:
🌿 Laminitis: A serious and painful condition affecting the sensitive lamellae within the hoof. Veterinary treatment and appropriate hoof support are essential. PEMF should only be considered as an additional therapy with veterinary guidance.
🌿 Coffin Joint Arthritis: Degenerative changes within the coffin joint can cause pain and reduced mobility. PEMF is being investigated for its potential role in supporting joint comfort.
🌿 Fetlock Arthritis and Joint Stiffness: Supporting horses experiencing chronic joint discomfort as part of a carefully managed rehabilitation programme.
🌿 Navicular Syndrome: A complex condition involving structures within the back of the hoof that requires an individual approach to treatment and hoof balance.
🌿 Tendon and Ligament Injuries: PEMF may be incorporated into a veterinary-guided rehabilitation programme for lower limb soft tissue injuries.
🌿 Hoof Abscess Recovery: Once the underlying problem has been appropriately treated the Hoofboot may be considered as an additional supportive therapy.
🌿 Chronic Hoof Discomfort and Lower Limb Rehabilitation: Offering a non-invasive treatment option that can be incorporated alongside other professional care.
Although PEMF has shown interesting results in some areas of research there is still limited clinical evidence for its effectiveness in treating these specific conditions in horses. It should never replace veterinary treatment or correct farrier care.
▪︎WHAT MAKES THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE?
For me it is not about finding one product or one treatment that fixes everything.
It is about bringing all the pieces together.
A well-balanced hoof provides the foundation.
A knowledgeable farrier understands how to support and maintain that foundation.
A veterinarian helps identify and manage underlying injuries and diseases.
A therapist looks at how the entire body responds and moves.
And supportive technologies such as our Activomed PEMF systems can become another part of an individual rehabilitation and wellness programme.
This is what I am so passionate about. Working together. Sharing knowledge. Continuing to learn and always putting the horse first.
After eight years of working alongside Chris I can confidently say how much I value having such a knowledgeable and dedicated farrier as part of our team.
Thank you Chris for your ongoing support, your expertise and your wonderful work with our horses and so many others throughout Canterbury.
We are looking forward to many more years of working together! 💙
