Helga the girl on the right of our FB header is now 4 years old and has had her 1st cria. Her colour is a lot like her mother and grandmother, but she has her father's and grandfather's fleece type. Congratulations to new owner Leanne

This is a great video on catching and haltering your llama. Grab a coffee and set aside 16 mins to watch it. Note that this is a trained llama so tying up with a carabiner instead of a quick release knot is OK, but never leave a llama tied unattended. He mentions that the halter slipping down will squish the llamas nose, but did not say that as they have to breathe through their noses it is dangerous

We prefer not to shear our llamas to the skin, instead using hand shears to leave about 2cm of fleece as protection from changes in the weather. It tends to give an "egg carton" look, but evens up quickly. If they co-operate it takes about 30mins, if they don't it is about an hour. Neither Polly or Pash co-operated but have forgiven me in exchange for treats................

This little girl who was born yesterday afternoon has been a long time in the making. Her sire is 6 year old Estefan son of my much loved Monte and Conchita who has now retired to a home in the Waikato, this is his 1st progeny as we have been using llama/guanaco sires the last few years. Her mother is Angelique who came from a rescue herd in the Wairarapa and has given me some wonderful progeny, including Hermosa, Reserve Champion in the recent NZLA Virtual Show. Angelique and Conchita are fully shedding, Monte was a woolly, so it is going to be interesting to see how her coat develops, I am expecting her to be a partial shedder. The due date was 11th Dec, but she looks very premmy, so we are assuming she is a right horn cria.

Keith Payne's Polly is staying with me for the convenience of a possible North Island buyer. She had her cria yesterday, a beautifully patterned girl. She is very feisty and already running around the paddock
