And here comes our very handsome Spud. He is a 6yr old neutered working boy and lives on a very big farm. He's looking for a new home because a younger lad has taken his place. Spud is very friendly with people, children, chooks and other stock. Only sheep can be a bit tricky for him.

I am looking for a semi-retired working dog (Collie or Huntaway) for a smallish nice flat (easy) block. The dog will have to look after about 100 ewes. The owner offers a fantastic home.
Since Northland Sheep Dog Trial Ass. doesn't allow me to advertise on their page anymore the options are a bit limited.
But maybe my followers can help. Please contact me if you think you have a suitable dog that maybe just can't handle full long days anymore but is still fit enough to manage a small place. Thanks for your help 😊

Sam is a 3-year-old Heading Dog based in Kerikeri, who has spent his whole life on the farm, growing up as a much-loved member of his family. He was very much a planned and wanted addition, and his dad is still around today.

Unfortunately, about 18 months ago, Sam had an accident and was kicked by a cow, resulting in a broken leg. Thankfully, his physical injuries have healed beautifully. He received excellent care, with regular vet visits and plenty of love and attention while he recovered. But while his leg healed, poor Sam lost some of his confidence.

These days, Sam prefers to stay close to his human dad while he is working rather than heading out and working stock himself. And because he isn't working like he once did, he doesn't always get the attention he deserves.

His owner feels that Sam could really thrive in the right home, somewhere he can be a much-loved pet and family dog rather than feeling like he has to be a working dog.

- He is extremely loyal
- Very well trained
- Has a bomb-proof recall
- Used to children
- Has experience around stock and chickens
- Was largely trained by the farmer's teenage son
- Very much loved and cared for
- Fully vaccinated

Sam is not desexed at this stage.

He is a lovely, loyal boy who has had a tough experience that knocked his confidence, and we would love to see him find a home where he can relax, build that confidence back up and simply enjoy being someone's beloved companion. His owner genuinely wants what is best for Sam and feels that he has so much more to give as a family dog.

Hello Everyone. Meet handsome Sam.
Sam is a 3 yr old Heading Dog and he was born and grew up on his farm. Dad is still around so he was very much planned and cared for. All started really well but then Sam had an accident. He was kicked by a cow and broke his leg about 18 months ago. His physical wounds have well healed in the meantime - he was well cared for with regular vet visits etc. But poor old Sam lost his confidence and prefers to stick with his human Dad while at work. Sam is very well trained with a bomb proof recall and is very loyal. Sam is used to children - in actual fact he was mainly trained by the farmer's teenage sun - stock, chickens, etc.
Sam is a very much loved member of the family but quite often he doesn't get the attention he deserves, because he is not working. The owner feels Sam could do better, he would make a fantastic pet and family dog.

Diego is featuring big time in the latest SPCA newsletter 🤩

From 6 July to 2 August, our Love for Long-Stays campaign matched animals with forever homes, with usual long-stay adoption fees being replaced with just a koha/donation.

Also Diego found his forever home in Rotorua. He now lives on a big farm, mainly forestry and deer. His new owner trains birds - so training a dog probably is a piece of cake 😍

Another heart warming story from Northland Working Dog 2nd Chance.
Alison contacted me that she was looking for a retired working dog to take on as a pet and can care for for the rest of the dog's life. I put the feelers out and found the beautiful Lady, but not retirement age at all. She's a 3 yr old collie and she wasn't too keen on the working site of things and was available for re-homing. Alison and Lady are now a team and I think they're a great team. Might have been love at first sight - I think 💞
