🏔️ Entries are still open for the SOUTHERN STAMPEDE!

Our very first South Island race is coming in February 2027, and we'd love you to be part of this pioneering miniature horse adventure!

The horses we start with vs the horses we create! Our horses come from all walks of life but a huge percentage start as rescues and rehabs, either from neglect, starvation, obesity or behaviour issues. Most come with horrendous feet and multiple health issues. We work super hard to rehab them and create the amazing little horses getting a second chance that you see at our races!

What is the Southern Stampede and how does it work?

We are bringing our event to the South Island of New Zealand for the very first time next year and we want as many people as possible coming along so our horses have a chance to show what they are made of.

How does it work?

Our events are 4 days long
Approx 25 km a day depending on terrain (thats about max 6 hours walking)
We always hold them in the most beautiful locations that you wouldn't usally have access to. In this case the stunning Mesopotamia Station in Canterbury.
Each day is split in to two legs with a vet check for the horse at the start, middle and end.
We provide dinner, spot prizes and a race breifing each evening.
It's open to ultra atheltes and ordinairy people alike, run or walk its up to you.
You can bring your own horses or borrow one of ours!

Our races are fun, inclusive, sometimes challenging and always memorable and it gives our amazing horses a chance to show the world what they can do alongside you!

THINK YOU COULDN'T POSSIBLY DO ONE OF OUR RACES? You might surprise yourself!

You don't have to be an ultramarathon runner. You don't have to be an elite athlete. And you definitely don't have to be the fastest person there.

Born to Run Adventure Racing is about setting yourself a challenge and giving it a go.

There are running AND walking categories, and you can train towards the event at a level that works for you.

For some people, the goal is to race.

For others, the goal is simply to finish.

And for some, getting to the start line is already a huge achievement.

Our little horses have taught us plenty about taking **big steps on little legs**. Maybe it's time to see what you're capable of too.

🌍 GLOBAL MINI MOVEMENT – SEPTEMBER 2026 HAS WRAPPED! 🐴

Our Global Mini Movement September 2026 virtual challenge has officially come to an end, and what a month it was!

What an amazing 30 days of movement, motivation and miniature horse love!
And one very special little mini, Legacy!💚

👏 15 participants
🏃 151 activities logged
🌟 13 participants stayed active
🐴 484 kilometres travelled

And our distance leaderboard was impressive!

YES — WE TAKE INTERNATIONAL ENTRIES!

Ever wanted to travel to New Zealand for an adventure that’s a little different?

We have just 6 SPACES LEFT for the Southern Stampede — February 2027, and international competitors are absolutely welcome!

✈️ Fly into Christchurch, New Zealand
🏔️ Head into the spectacular Southern Alps
🐴 Race alongside a miniature horse
🥾 Choose to run or walk
🌿 Spend four days adventuring through some of New Zealand’s most incredible country

And if you’re travelling internationally, you don’t need to bring a horse all the way to New Zealand — we have a limited number of our Born to Run horses available for competitors to use.

You don’t need to be an ultra runner either. We welcome everyone from people taking on their first big endurance challenge to experienced ultra athletes looking for something completely different.

This is part race, part adventure and one very good excuse to come to New Zealand. 🇳🇿

And your entry helps support our work rescuing and rehabilitating miniature horses.
