The New Zealand Secondary Schools Equestrian Championships are an exciting and busy experience, but remember that travelling, staying somewhere unfamiliar and competing over several days are work for your horse too.

Your horse does not need to spend the entire event standing still—but they also do not need to be constantly ridden or endlessly warmed up.

Throughout the event:

* Use an appropriate warm-up for your horse and your class.
* Cool your horse down properly after riding.
* Provide plenty of forage and fresh water.
* Allow time for rest and recovery between classes.
* Offer opportunities to move, stretch and hand graze safely.
* Do not keep riding simply because you are bored or have time to fill.
* Monitor your horse’s appetite, hydration, behaviour and soundness.
* Adjust your plans if they seem tired, stiff, stressed or not themselves.

Your competition goals must never come before your horse’s welfare. Good horsemanship includes knowing when your horse has done enough.

Virtual Jumping 2026 – Compete Internationally Without Leaving Home

Expressions of Interest are now open for the 2026 Pony Club International Alliance Virtual Jumping Show, hosted by NZPCA alongside Pony Club South Africa.

Open to all current financial NZPCA members, with classes from Trot Poles through to 105 cm.

Represent New Zealand internationally from your own arena or local Pony Club.

Expressions of Interest close 1 September 2026.

PCIA VIRTUAL DRESSAGE SHOW 2026 – APPLICATIONS CLOSE WEDNESDAY!

Here’s your chance to represent Team NZ in the 2026 PCIA Virtual Dressage Show!

We are looking for four riders in each class:

* First Level – equivalent to Dressage NZ Novice
* Second Level – equivalent to Dressage NZ Elementary
* Third Level – equivalent to Dressage NZ Advanced Medium
* Freestyle to Music – equivalent to Dressage NZ Novice

Applications close this Wednesday, 26 August at 8.00pm, so don’t miss your chance!

Lou has a wealth of knowledge and experience in coaching and we know she has some exciting plans for our club's future. Lou will be at our registration day if you want to come along and meet her.
