Formerly BJ Merino NZ, Waitotara is entering its next chapter with the same trusted saddle blankets riders have known for years, now with a fresh new look, and a renewed focus on supporting horses and riders.

As many of you know, BJ Merino NZ has recently changed ownership and is now becoming Waitōtara | Equine Performance.

We’re excited to share the next step in that journey - our new Waitōtara logo!

While the name and look are changing, the saddle blankets and the heritage behind BJ Merino NZ remain at the heart of what we’re doing. We’re proud to carry forward 30 years of history, while bringing our own fresh ideas and energy to the brand.

You’ll start seeing the Waitōtara name and logo across our page, website, products, and communications as we make the transition from BJ Merino to Waitōtara.

We’re really excited about this next chapter and grateful to everyone who has supported BJ Merino NZ over the years, and to those joining us for what comes next.

After almost 30 years of making wool saddle blankets loved by riders here in New Zealand and around the world, BJ Merino NZ has entered a new chapter under new ownership.

With enormous respect for the history of the business, the craftsmanship behind its products and the loyal customers who have supported BJ Merino NZ over the years, we’re excited to introduce our new name:

WAITŌTARA | EQUINE PERFORMANCE

The name has a special connection to the beginnings of the business as Waitōtara Farm in South Head was where the original saddle blankets were first made by Beryl Sagar, making it a fitting name to carry the story forward.

While the name is changing, we remain committed to what has made BJ Merino NZ special – beautifully made saddle blankets with quality materials, designed to be used and enjoyed by riders and their horses.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about Waitōtara, the story behind the name, and our saddle blanket range.

A special moment as we welcome the next chapter for BJ Merino!

A huge thank you to Beryl Sagar for making the trip to Auckland to help us get set up and share her knowledge and experience with our Sewing Production Manager, Shirley.

After almost 30 years of making quality wool saddle pads, Beryl’s experience and craftsmanship are a huge part of what makes this product special, and we’re so grateful she’s helping ensure a smooth transition.
