Meet the magnificent Lylith who is pictured here with her mum. Lylith is a beautiful tortoiseshell Maine c**n and weighs approximately 11kgs, as you can see she is certainly bigger than the average domestic cat.

The Maine c**n breed are a large cat native to North America and are well known for the tufted fur on their ears and toes, and the cute chirp sound that they make instead of the typical meow.

Lylith came to see us for an injury of unknown origin with partial paralysis of her tail. Tail pull injuries can happen in all sorts of ways, mostly by the tail getting caught while the cat is moving e.g a door slamming shut in a draught. This injuries the nerves at the end of the spinal cord. It can be mild like Lylith’s with just the tail end paralysed, or in bad cases it can end with the cat being paraplegic, including loss of bladder and bowel control. Nervous function usually returns, but it can take a long time.

Lylith has improved quite a bit over the month at her check-ups, and was a fan favourite at our Waitara clinic.
