HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE… FOR A GOOD HANDSTRIP?
Meet Rhum, being handstripped by Renée — and this before-and-after is such a good example of why the technique can make such a difference.
One of the most striking things is the colour change. As the older coat is removed, the fresh coat underneath comes through cleaner, richer and much more defined.
That’s the beauty of handstripping on suitable coats — it helps preserve the natural texture and colour instead of simply clipping everything shorter.
And Rhum’s transformation is pretty amazing.
Before: softer, duller, more grown out.
After: sharper, brighter and beautifully finished.

Say hello to Sam, Cassie, Teddy, Shizzy, Luna and Rafi — all fresh, tidy and looking far too good for spooky season.
We love a Friday full of wagging tails, gorgeous faces and a little Halloween fun in the salon. Every dog has their own personality, and that’s half the fun of getting to know them.

Meet Mia, our Pet of the Week at Angels Grooming Howick.
Mia is an absolute little goofball and somehow manages to be adorable without even trying. 😂
And can we talk about that haircut? So cute, so neat, and it suits her perfectly.
She was such a lovely dog to have in the salon and definitely gave us a few smiles along the way.
Well done, Mia — you’re a little character and we loved having you in. 💛

Just look at this gorgeous little face. 💛
Navy has now had his second full groom, and what a difference from that fluffy puppy coat already.
He did such a lovely job and is really starting to get the hang of the whole grooming routine — bath, dry, trim, cuddles… the lot.

It’s so nice watching puppies grow in confidence with each visit, and Navy is absolutely on his way.
Super cute, super clever, and looking very grown up after groom number two.
Well done, Navy — you were a little star. ⭐

🎃🐾 MEET BELLA — LOOK AT ALL THAT COAT!
Bella came in to Angels Grooming Howick for a proper tidy-up, and there was definitely plenty to work with.
That pile of coat says it all. 😂
Underneath all the fluff was this lovely girl, looking much fresher and more comfortable after her groom.
We love a good transformation, especially when you can really see how much coat has come away.
Is your dog starting to leave half their coat around the house? It might be time for a freshen-up before Halloween.

🐾 BREED OF THE WEEK — PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER
Small dog. Huge personality.
The Parson Russell Terrier was originally developed in England as a working terrier, bred to be quick, brave, clever and determined enough to keep up with horses and go to ground after foxes.
That working background still shows today.
Parsons are usually:
- bright and very quick to learn
- energetic and athletic
- bold, confident and full of character
- happiest when they have something to do
- very good at reminding you that “small” does not mean “quiet”
They can be smooth, broken or rough coated, and the harsher coats are often best maintained by hand stripping rather than clipping if you want to preserve the correct texture and colour.
So how do you tell a Parson Russell from a Jack Russell?
This is where people often get confused.
The Parson Russell Terrier is generally taller and more square in outline, with longer legs and a more athletic, rangy build.
The Jack Russell Terrier is usually shorter in the leg and longer in the body, giving a more rectangular shape.
Both share similar ancestry and plenty of terrier attitude, but the body proportions are one of the easiest things to look for.
And whichever one you have, chances are you’ve got a dog with brains, confidence and absolutely no shortage of opinions.

🐾 MEET ERNIE, THE PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER!
You don’t see this breed every day, so Ernie was a pretty special visitor.
Here’s Renée, our Certified Master Groomer, hand-stripping Ernie’s coat — a traditional grooming technique used to help maintain the correct texture, colour and finish of suitable terrier coats.

Grooming really is so much more than just clipping hair. Different breeds have different coat types, different needs and different techniques that help them look and feel their best.
And Ernie was such a good boy for the whole process.
