A Life-Saving Rescue 🐓❤️🩹
When SPCA Hastings employee Christina heard that a rooster had been dumped around 30 minutes out of town, with no way to fend for himself, she knew time was running out to bring him to safety.
Packing up her own car, Christina hit the road early and headed to the location where a member of the public had last spotted the worse-for-wear rooster.
The dedicated Senior Animal Attendant searched and called for him, but as the minutes ticked by, hope of finding the abandoned bird began to fade. It was a lonely, frustrating search, and Christina couldn't help but worry about the cold, hungry rooster out there on his own.
Just as she was about to call off the search, a little face appeared from the bushes! Tempted by the snacks Christina had thoughtfully brought along, the rooster came close enough for her to safely secure him with a net.
Finally, he was safe. 🥹
Transferred into a carry cage for the journey back to SPCA Hastings, the little rooster was given a second chance at life. Christina could finally take a moment to catch her breath, knowing that what could have ended in tragedy had instead become a life-saving rescue, just in the nick of time.
And so, this brave little boy was given a name that tells his story perfectly: Lucky. 🍀
Lucky will now recover in SPCA care while we begin the search for a loving, suitable home where he can enjoy a safe and happy future.
Christina says:
"Lucky is another example of what can happen when animals are bred without a plan for their future and then dumped when they are no longer wanted. Dumping is never the answer. If you have unwanted animals, whether they're birds, cats, dogs, mice or any other little soul, please reach out for help rather than leaving them to fend for themselves. Every animal deserves kindness, safety and a chance at life."
💙 Lucky was fortunate that someone cared enough to act. But no animal should have to rely on luck to survive.
Please remember that animals are not disposable. Responsible ownership means planning for their entire lives, and if circumstances change, seeking help is always better than abandoning them.
