🐾 Did you know pets age much faster than we do? 🐾

A lot can change in just 12 months for our furry friends. Regular health checks can help detect issues like dental disease, arthritis, weight changes, and other health concerns before they become bigger problems.

✨ This winter, we’re encouraging all pet owners to book a wellness check for their dogs and cats. Ask us what this includes today!

Not sure if your pet is due? Give us a call—we’re happy to help!

📞 Appointments available now.
📩 Give us a call at the clinic on 07 855 5655 to book.

Your pet’s health is our priority, and we’re here to support them at every stage of life. ❤️

🐦 Bird Flu: A reminder to stay vigilant

While bird flu (H5N1) has not been detected in the Waikato, it's important for all New Zealanders to know what to do if they come across a sick or dead wild bird.

If you see one:
❌ Don't touch or move it.
📞 Report it to MPI on 0800 80 99 66.
🐕 Keep pets, especially dogs, away from sick or dead birds.

If your pet has had contact with a sick or dead bird, please give your local CareVets clinic a call for advice before bringing them in.

Early reporting helps protect our native wildlife, livestock, pets and communities. Thank you for helping keep New Zealand safe. 💙

Edit: Owners have been located.

Hi everyone,

A ginger cat has been brought into our clinic after being found near the horse paddocks in Rototuna North. Sadly, he has passed away.

If you are missing a ginger desexed and microhipped male cat, please contact us on 07 855 5655 or visit us at our clinic on North City Road.

If your cat has any identifying features, please let us know so we can help confirm.

He is unfortunately not registered on NZCAR or on the CareVets database which can help us locate owners almost immediately.

We’re very sorry for anyone affected by this.

🐾 What is a desexing tattoo in a cat? 🐾

In New Zealand, a desexing tattoo is a small, permanent mark placed on a cat’s ear at the time they are desexed (spayed or castrated).

🔹 Why is it important?
The ear tattoo allows vets, rescues, and animal control officers to instantly identify that a cat has already been desexed even from a distance or if no medical history is available.

🔹 What are the benefits?
✔ Prevents unnecessary repeat surgery
✔ Helps stray and owned cats be identified as desexed
✔ Supports responsible pet ownership and population control

🔹 Does it hurt?
No-the tattoo is done while your cat is under general anaesthetic during their desexing surgery.

Desexing ear tattoos are a quick, safe, and widely used identification method for cats across New Zealand 🐱🇳🇿 If you’d like more information about desexing or ear tattoos, our team is happy to help!
