Please join us in welcoming our new veterinarian, Eleanor!

We are so excited to have Eleanor join our team and can't wait for our clients and their pets to meet her.

Eleanor will be available for consultations throughout the day until 3:00 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, and she'll also be performing surgery on Wednesdays.

We know she'll be a wonderful addition to the clinic, bringing her knowledge, compassion, and love for animals to our team and the pets we care for.

If you're in the clinic, make sure to say hello and give Eleanor a warm welcome! We're thrilled to have her with us and look forward to this exciting new chapter together.

we had the pleasure to have Cletus in for his entropion surgery. he had been living with entropion, a painful eye condition where the eyelids and lashes roll inwards and rub against the surface of the eye. This can cause ongoing irritation, discomfort and can significantly affect a pet’s quality of life.
We were so happy to have Cletus in with us and help get him on the road to feeling much more comfortable. 🥰

It’s amazing to see the difference that treating painful conditions like this can make. Cletus is such a gorgeous boy, and we’re wishing him a smooth recovery and lots of happy, comfortable days ahead! 💙

🐦 Bird Flu: A reminder to stay vigilant

While bird flu (H5N1) has not been detected in the Waikato, it's important for all New Zealanders to know what to do if they come across a sick or dead wild bird.

If you see one:
❌ Don't touch or move it.
📞 Report it to MPI on 0800 80 99 66.
🐕 Keep pets, especially dogs, away from sick or dead birds.

If your pet has had contact with a sick or dead bird, please give your local CareVets clinic a call for advice before bringing them in.

Early reporting helps protect our native wildlife, livestock, pets and communities. Thank you for helping keep New Zealand safe. 💙

As we celebrate Matariki, we would like to wish all our clients and their families a safe and happy long weekend.

Please note that our clinic will be closed on Friday 10 July 2026 for Matariki. Our normal opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am–6:00pm.
For veterinary care over the weekend, our CareVets Rototuna will be open for consultations.
Saturday -9am-4pm
Sunday- 9am - 4pm

This morning, beautiful Smooch was brought into the clinic by a kind member of the public after she had been seen wandering around the area for almost a month.

Thankfully, because Smooch had a microchip implanted, we were able to scan her, locate her owners, and make contact. When we spoke to her owner, she told us Smooch had actually been missing since January this year, and after so long, they had sadly started to lose hope of ever seeing her again.

Today, after months apart, Smooch was finally reunited with her family and is now safely back home where she belongs 🐾❤️

This is a friendly reminder of just how important microchips are. A microchip gives your pet the best chance of finding their way back to you if they ever go missing. microchips can’t fall off or be removed, and they provide permanent identification that veterinary clinics and shelters can scan instantly.

It’s also so important to make sure your contact details are kept up to date on your pet’s microchip registration, even a simple change of phone number can make all the difference in getting your beloved pet home safely.

Stories like Smooch’s are exactly why we encourage all pets to be microchipped 🐶🐱

🍫 Easter reminder: Please keep all chocolate and Easter treats well out of reach of your furry friends. Chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs and cats and can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, restlessness, tremors, and even seizures. Even small amounts can be harmful, especially in smaller pets.

If your pet does accidentally eat chocolate, please contact an emergency vet clinic as soon as possible.
