How do you know when a spot is just a “freckle” and when it deserves a closer look? 🐶🐱

As our pets get older, new freckles and pigmented spots can appear on their skin, and many are completely harmless. But some changes may be worth getting checked.

Happy Vet Nurse Awareness Week! 💚

From 5 to 9 October, we’re celebrating our amazing Anexa Veterinary Nurses and Large Animal Technicians and everything they bring to our team.

Across both our Companion Animal and Production Animal teams, we’re incredibly fortunate to have such a compassionate, dedicated and professional group of people supporting our vets, caring for animals and helping our clients every day.

Whether they’re working in our clinics or out on farm alongside our Production Animal vets, their knowledge, practical skills, kindness and commitment make a real difference to the care and service we provide.

Thank you for being such an important part of the Anexa team. We’re incredibly lucky to have you!

What an incredible day! 🐶

On 26 September, we partnered with Waikato Pound Pups Waikato District Council for the second year running for Driving Out Parvo 2026 in Taupiri.

Thanks to an amazing community effort, 130 dogs received their parvovirus vaccination and 95 dogs were microchipped! 🙌

A very special thank you to our incredible Anexa volunteers who generously gave their time to make the day possible. Your compassion, dedication and commitment to caring for our community are what make days like this so special. You’re absolute legends! 💚

And of course, thank you to everyone who came along with their furry family members. It was wonderful to see so many people taking an important step to help protect their dogs from parvo.

🐾 If your puppy was vaccinated on the day, remember they will still need a booster vaccination. Please contact your nearest Anexa clinic to book their booster.

Together, we’re helping protect more dogs in our community from parvo.

Our Driving Out Parvo event is underway in Taupiri. Come along today and protect your dog with a FREE parvo vaccination and microchip! 🐶💉

📍 Eastern Waikato Netball Centre, 34 Murphy Lane, Taupiri
⏰ 10am to 2pm, today, Saturday 26 September

Dogs and puppies must be over 6 weeks old, no booking is required, and dogs must be on a lead. Please bring proof of address as this event is for Waikato District Council residents.

There’s also a free barbecue, dog product samples, freebies and exclusive discounts on the day!

Preventive care plays an important role in keeping our pets healthy and comfortable throughout their lives. Dental disease can develop below the gum line without obvious signs, while regular monitoring as pets age can help identify changes early.

From dental care and blood screening to arthritis assessment and mobility support, taking action early can make a real difference.

Good manners make life easier 🐕💚

Training is about much more than teaching your dog to sit or stay. It helps build confidence, improve safety and strengthen the bond between you and your pup.

For Week 3 of Responsible Pet Owner Month, we’re focusing on training, safety, and confidence. From recall and lead walking to calm greetings and learning how to navigate the world around them, those early skills can make a big difference throughout your dog’s life.

And if you have a puppy at home, this is the perfect time to get started! 🐶

Our next Puppy Preschool starts 7 October at our Morrinsville clinic, with four weekly sessions designed to help puppies build confidence, develop important socialisation skills and get off to a great start.
