You might spot a few new faces in today's post 😍

Along with *old timers* Macy, George, Piglet, Buddy & Jeff 🫶🏼

*Old Timers* 😎
Macy had a fab Training Walk, lots of off lead walking, playing and proofing her awesome skills. George got in the car without help and can now be closed in and stays calm 🤞🏻 next week we can go on a short trip! Piglet, Buddy & Jeff had a structured walk getting the steps in and continuing to coexist together beautifully.

*Newbies* 🌟
Max the 18 month old Labrador is joining the crew to work on some frustration reactivity that has popped up as well as building on his impulse control and general lead walking manners. Today we started the foundations of bond building and learning new skills that will help him to focus around triggers.
Skye the Border Collie is true to her breed's name and is as smart as they come. Unfortunately she is having a few struggles with leaving the property to go on walks without mum. Today we mainly focused on building a relationship, trick training, play, and some calm street watching.

Wacky Wednesday's 🤪

Today we had Yuki, Peppa, Walt & Charlie, Bailey and Lulu & Marley 😍

During Yuki's Training Walks we are starting to add more structure around his lead manners, knowing the difference between when he needs to walk closely and when it is ok to go off and sniff or explore. At his age, he thinks everything needs to be examined very closely, so impulse control is hard, but he is picking up the rules as long as we are clear and consistent, making it easy to understand and follow.

Peppa is blowing away my expectations every week. Today she made 2 new dogs friends (polite sniff hello) and ignored many other people. We now go out and actively search for triggers to work with rather than trying to avoid and distract. She even felt confident enough to approach a woman on her own and investigate as they walked past, amazing!

Walt & Charlie had their usual trip to the dog park, swimming in the water and investigating all of the smells. We love to include obedience, tricks and impulse control for Walt to keep his brain ticking but Charlie just loves to come along for the free snacks. He is an older boy so is allowed to demand the treats 🤣

Bailey had a busy Training Walk down by the river, dealing with many pushbikes, joggers, dogs and even a few trikes which were a new experience for us. This walk was fairly structured, meaning less sniffing and more brain work which can get tiring for him but he does so well and always tries his hardest for me.

Lastly, we had Lulu and Marley's final walk before their humans come home tomorow. These two have been a pleasure to take out and have really done a stellar job improving their lead manners in only 5 sessions together and spent their entire walk today by my side. Marley especially has come such a long way in that short time, having spent our first session hiding under the car from me.

4 seasons in 1 day today.... It was rainy, sunny, hot, cold and very very windy 💨🫣 but by some miracle we managed to all avoid getting soaked 🙌🏼

Forest had a great on lead walk with more freedom because she is getting so good at walking along without pulling. Followed by a sniff at the park with some recall training.

Maiya probably had her best walk yet and was able to walk right next to the pathway at the lake past lots of people, completely ignoring them all. She even walked past a man with a leaf blower, an even though she was wary, she had no reaction at all.

Tilly worked more on her whistle recall and her on and off lead heel walking, handler focus and getting to splash in the puddles and run off some steam.

Kora enjoyed a lead walk by the river, focusing whilst walking past other people and dogs and getting to soak up a bit of sun amongst the rain and wind.

Freddy is doing well with conditioning the halti. He is loving having more freedom on the flexi lead and getting to run, explore and sniff which is the freedom he's earning now he checks in with me frequently.

Bailey had a mixture of an on and off walk. Off lead we focused on recall, emergency stop training and listening even when excited. On lead we worked on being calm and controlled, focusing and matching my pace.

On this International Dog Day, I'll be thinking about all of the incredibly special moments and memories shared with these very special dogs that have been in my life 💕

Lady and Badger 🐾 the two Jack Russel Terriers I grew up with. They first taught me about love, patience, guidance and how to care so deeply for another being 💕

Kiara 🐾 our sweet beautiful sensitive girl who we lost in June this year, taken from us far too soon. She taught me all about training, trust, positive reinforcement, reactivity and working with "difficult" dogs. How to be kind, caring, understanding, patient, how to not be so hard on yourself when things go wrong and how hard work goes a long way. Not a day goes by that we don't miss you special girl 💕

Kobe 🐾 he is still teaching me every day how to show up and be a better person. He is smart - often too smart, funny, quirky, cuddly, loveable, never takes life too seriously, and just the best canine teacher. I love coming home to you and getting to spend each day with you 💕

On this International Dog Day, take a moment to remember, reflect, and honour those special dogs that have been in your life and the different lessons they have taught you 🐾

🎉 Happy International Dog Day From Us 🎉

Today's crew all looking sharp 😎

Having worked professionally with dogs for over 6 years now, I can say that I am forever learning something new about them.

We owe it to our dogs (on this day and every other) to learn as much as we can about them. To understand their behaviour, their quirks, their habits, their body language, and to do what we can to help them thrive and feel safe in our world. A world which is human-centric, filled with unrealistic human expectations, and which can be hard, confusing, demanding, unpredictable, and down right stressful at times.

They show us love (by jumping up) and they get told off, they bring us their favourite toy (our new shoes) and they get told off, they help out with the gardening (by digging) and they get told off, they keep their family safe (barking at the courier) and they get told off, they feel anxious around other dogs (growl at them) and they get told off. They get labeled as naughty, aggressive, stubborn or spiteful.

Yet they still show up every day for us, showing us unconditional love. They still greet us with a wagging tail, a happy smile, cuddles and slobbery kisses every day.

Next time you feel like telling your dog off for something you find annoying, take a second to remind yourself that they are just a dog, being a dog. They are not being naughty, aggressive, stubborn or spiteful.

If you take the time to understand them and learn more about them then you'll see what I see, that they are amazing, unique, smart, sensitive, curious, individual, hilarious, and just the best creatures that we are lucky enough to call man's best friend 💕

💜 Tilly - we are now adding more structure to her heel walking, proofing her whistle recall, adding steadyness and impulse control to locating and retrieving, and of course splashing around in every puddle we see (wouldn't expect any less from a labrador!)

💚 Kora - at a location we hadn't been to in ages, we focused on calm lead walking, heel walking past dogs and people, ignoring ducks, geese, bikes and pushchairs, and practising parkour skills on random objects.

💙 Freddy - it was all about getting in the sniffs amongst heel walking, focusing around distractions, checking in when reaching the end of the lead (or when called back), and also slowly desensitising the halti as this is something he previously showed he wasn't a fan of but we wanted to help him overcome this so we have another tool we can use on walks when needed.

🧡 Bailey - a pretty relaxed training walk for Bailey, loose lead walking, calmly passing distractions, learning to pull over and wait as bikes and scooters pass (it was school closing time so there were a lot of these to navigate!).

Meet Tilly, the latest addition to the Pawsome Manners Training Walk Crew 🥰

Tilly is a 15 month old black labrador, most likely from working lines. She is the perfect stamp of what a great lab should be - the good = lots of fun, got the smarts, happy go lucky, a people pleaser, and super confident. The not so good = lacking impulse control, wants to be everyone's friend (even those who don't want to be her friend), and easily distracted. All extremely normal for a working lab who is also a hormonal teenager 🤪

Luckily, Tilly is very food and toy driven and loves working with her people (as most labs should be), which means that training can be exciting, fun and relatively easy (if you know what to do!). Tilly also has a great foundation of training, but her humans are soon welcoming a new little human 👶 to their family, so Training Walks are a way to get out that adolescent energy whilst fine tuning her current skills and also adding a few new ones to her repertoire.

The main things we will be focusing on going forward will be
🐾 Retrieving games
🐾 Scent work games
🐾 Whistle recall games
🐾 Using play to emphasize that fun happens WITH us
🐾 Impulse control games
🐾 Calm lead walking

I look forward to working more with this super fun girl and seeing what we can achieve together 😍
