The April Puppy Essentials class is in full swing. Last night, they went into the confidence course and met multiple other pups. Its Kingi's birthday today 🎈 He's now 4 years old, so he will be able to give some wise and mature guidance to the youngsters coming with him on the dog walks. Kingi came through my Puppy Class, so it's crazy to think I've been running those for over 4 years now.

The April Puppy Class graduates demonstrated a very specific set of skills on their last night. Especially, the skill of not looking at the camera. The humans, however, did just fine. From left to right: Tova, Ozzy, Luna and Chloe. Absent were Reggie and Lucy. Good luck everyone, and I look forward to catching up again in the future.

Pip is a young German short-haired Pointer who was born to hunt. She is extremely interested in her environment, and smells turn her ears off quickly. This meant that she could run off under distraction, which is always a dangerous situation. Also, the owner wants to hunt with her, so she needs to be able to take commands at a distance. Training with the e-collar enabled us to build a recall that is fast and fun for her.

This is Turbo (who is well-named!) at his initial consultation. While he is a very social dog, his persistent jumping at people and out-of-control behaviour is pretty extreme. The clip here is after he had been trying to jump for quite some time. It was so frantic that it wasn't possible to film it. The good news is that Turbo's owners will be training with me, and we'll work to help him become more civilised.

Raukura is a young XL Bully, with a lot of power to pull. She has been difficult to walk on lead and is very reactive to other dogs. I've been working with her owners to build a training language, and general obedience with alternative behaviours, so Raukura can be managed, and manage herself better when she sees other dogs.

Pip, on the right, struggles with other dogs, barking and lunging at them. The reason she does this is she has had limited exposure to other dogs and is full of conflicting emotions. She is, however, actually quite a chill, sociable dog when she is introduced properly and carefully. Aida, on the left is just the right sort of calm dog that Pip needed to meet to decide that it all wasn't such a big deal after all.
