Educational Post Time!
Recently, a client of mine was accidentally hit with a w**d whacker.
He suffered a broken leg, lacerations to his legs and severe blood loss. His owners acted immediately, got him straight to the vet and he is now at home recovering. It means at least eight weeks in a crate and a hefty vet bill, but he is okay.
I thought it was a perfect opportunity to educate all dog owners, and to spread awareness, that yes, this does happen.
This is the second dog I know of that has gotten in the way of a w**d eater. The first got a canine tooth knocked out and his mouth lacerated. I have heard of another dog that got their entire leg whacked off.
In the interests of protecting your dog - please put them inside when operating garden equipment. That includes the lawnmower.
We can never assume it will never happen, because it does.
Even if they have never gone anywhere near it before. Put them inside.
Even if they have never shown an interest in it. Put them inside.
Even if they are scared of it and keep away. Put them inside.
Even if you have "trained them" to stay away. Put them inside.
"My dog would never do that." Put them inside.
It's not worth the risk - according to the vets, it happens all the time. One wrong move and your dog could end up with serious injuries, or worse.
