Kane Farms

Kane Farms Westholm Dairies is a 668ha dairy and beef farm in West Otago. We milk 700 cows and run beef‑cross youngstock and an Angus stud.

Four generations have shaped a tidy, well‑run business focused on good stockmanship and practical environmental care. In 1929 David and Nellie Kane bought 'Westholm' on the edge of the Pomhaka River, Tapanui. A mix of flats and rolling ridges, they raised their 5 children here and Murray took over and added Burnfoot to this. Burnfoot is also bounded by the river and has gravel outcrops at the base

of the Blue Mountain. A third block was added by Robertand Mary-Anne in 1996, with Luke and Nicole adding Oyster Creek in 2015. Today Peter, Luke and Nicole run a very diverse farming operation which incorporates 660 dairy cows, plus young stock, hereford and angus cattle studs, with the aim of rearing all stock born on farm. We aim to breed stock that performs well and has high production on a grass based system.
