Happy Father’s Day to all the pet dads, dog dads, cat dads and dads of every kind — and to the furry helpers who are never far from their side.
Whether they’re helping in the workshop, joining you on a walk, inspecting every project or simply keeping you company, our pets have a special way of being part of everything we do. ❤️
And while we hope you won’t need us, the NSVECC team is here if your furry DIY assistant gets into a little more trouble than planned this Father’s Day.

🐾 WHAT DID YOU EAT?!
Meet Knight — tiny kitten, big personality… and questionable taste in snacks. 🐱👑
Knight came in after repeatedly vomiting and being unable to keep water down. X-rays raised concerns, and surgery revealed the culprit: hair ties!
Turns out it’s not just pups who eat things they shouldn’t. Hair ties, rubber bands, string and ribbon can all be tempting — and dangerous — for curious cats.
Thankfully, Knight recovered beautifully and returned home to resume his role as Lord of the Household. 👑🐈‍⬛
❤️ Keep tempting little objects safely out of reach.

🐾 Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
Our hyperbaric chamber can be used as part of supportive treatment for both cats and dogs, delivering oxygen in a pressurised environment to help support healing and recovery.
Another tool available to help us care for our emergency and critical patients when they need it most. ❤️🐾

🐾 Double Trouble! 🐱🐱
These two mischievous Maine C**n kittens decided that getting into the Voltaren was a good idea… it definitely wasn’t!😳
After an urgent trip to NSVECC, plenty of monitoring and supportive care, these two troublemakers were thankfully able to head home. ❤️
A good reminder that human medications can be dangerous for our pets — especially when curious paws are involved!

⚠️ AVIAN INFLUENZA / BIRD FLU – PLEASE KNOW WHAT TO DO

If you come across sick, dying or dead wild birds, do not touch or move them. Keep children and pets away, take note of the location, and report concerning groups of wild birds to Biosecurity New Zealand.

MPI currently advises reporting 3 or more sick or dead wild birds in a group by calling 0800 80 99 66 or reporting online at report.mpi.govt.nz.

CAT vs HOSPITAL 10/10 nursing care. 2/10 review from the patient.

Meet Chester, a handsome former street cat who took 2 years to learn to trust his human. His unique greeting? Running over hissing.. before happily kneading away during cuddles! 🐱❤Hospital can be stressful for cats, so Chester stayed in our quiet, cat only ward with Feliway, a cosy hide, tasty brides and visits from his human. He may not have left us a five star review, but we'll take the happy kneading duringhis checks as a win!😹
