A pretty special result for Zola from Aurora! 🐴
On 4 September, Zola underwent surgery to remove her right eye after more than a year of battling a condition known as equine recurrent uveitis. This is a condition where inflammation repeatedly develops inside the eye, often causing considerable pain and, over time, permanent damage to vision. Unfortunately, in some cases, despite treatment, the eye becomes too painful to save and surgical removal is the best option for the horse’s welfare.
The surgery was performed by Dr Scott Hawkins and Dr Alex Meban, and thankfully everything went extremely well. Zola was a fantastic patient, and with some excellent aftercare from Diesel and Caroline, she has made a remarkable recovery.
Fast forward just under six weeks, and today Zola was back out competing with Georgie, finishing 5th in the 1.15 m class at the A&P Show!
It’s really pleasing to see her back doing what she enjoys, and a great example of just how well horses can adapt to life with one eye.
