The first of nine races at Gore on Friday is at 12.15pm.
Rangiora trainer Jess Land will saddle the likely favourite Chataya in race one, the Advance Agiculture maiden 2200m.
Chataya, the 6yr-old daughter of Redwood had 13 starts in the North Island but has raced consistently well in her six races since joining with Jess Land in June.
Chataya was second at her last start at Timaru (Oct 4) over this distance.
Jess and her partner Brett Murray have brought down six horses for the meeting including Loose Knickers in the RB Rural maiden 1355m. Akshay Ballo will ride Loose Knickers, who has finished third and second in his last two starts.
Hanalei Star has either finished second or third in her last three races. She is in one of the most competitive races on the the day, the Gore Elite Plumbing rating 65 1355m.
Jess has two runners in the last race of the day sponsored by JJ’s Gore. My Girl Alice is having her first start in rating 65 grade after winning a maiden over this same 1200m distance at Wingatui on October 2, while Elite Choice is having her first start from the Rangiora stable.
Jess said her team should mostly all be good chances on Friday “We are definitely bringing down a nice bunch, I’m just hoping it’s fourth time lucky for us and we actually get to race!
Jess jokes about her recent history of bad luck travelling down to in Gore. “I might be cursing the poor place!!”
“We came down twice last year when the wind storm come through in October and then the rain called off the rescheduled meeting and then we came down for the last lot in September.”
“We love the Gore racing club though, the organisers are so accomodating and do everything they can to help.”
