Being a Secondary Teacher I naturally sway towards education. The growth of this page has meant there are a number of people now following, who have not been here very long and don't know me. There are many different opinions on breeding coming through which I don't have a problem with, if you're open. But if all the highs and lows of owning multiple dogs, and breeding doesn't interest you, please don't stay following. You'll just get frustrated. If your comments are detrimental I will block you.

There has been some concern regarding Petra doing 'too much work.' The following article explains why mother dogs clean up after their puppies, and apart from changing the mat, I don't usually intervene at this stage.

• Stimulating Elimination: Newborn puppies cannot urinate or defecate on their own for the first few weeks. Licking their anogenital region triggers these physical waste reflexes.
• Maintaining Nest Hygiene: The mother licks and consumes the waste and birth fluids. This keeps the nest clean, prevents disease, and masks the scent to protect the litter from potential predators in the wild.
• Bonding and Comfort: Licking releases calming endorphins for both the mother and the puppies, establishing warmth, security, and a strong maternal bond.
