Hi all!
Would anybody possibly be interested in adopting Nemo? He's a crimson wing parrot, handreared by me this season (I'll find the exact date he hatched and update later). Not DNA sexed so could well be female.
I am in no hurry to rehome him and I'll be waiting for the right home to come along.
He's a very special character and will not get on with everyone or be suitable for some homes. He is boisterous, quirky and just a little crazy.
He loves to play fight, which can lead to being bitten, so PLEASE don't apply if you're scared of biting birds!
Nemo loves to play in general, and is often found hanging upside down off the light shade, curtains, doorframe or anything else. He flies at top speed in confined areas and perfectly twists and turns to avoid obstacles.
He is a little destructive, but not to the point you can't trust him out alone (he will eat headphones and thin cables however).
Nemo gets on well with my cockatiels and king parrot, but can be aggressive towards new birds.
He's tame, but has not been trained to step up etc, so catching him can be a mission.
Compared to most parrots he is quiet. He has sing song moments, usually before napping, but is not a screamer.
_______
I would love to see him in a patient home, ideally with a man or woman not scared of him playing a little rough, with some experience with parrots. No babies/young kids, and older kids must be respectful of his need for quiet time.
He will need a large cage for his food and water, but i do not want him in a home where he'll be shut up all day. He has had 24/7 free range with me and loves it.
He has been getting roudybush california blend pellets as his staple diet and he will do best to remain on it, with some treats and veg to mix it up.
Due to his quirky personality I'm afraid I can't sell him sight unseen - potential families will have to come and meet him in Dunsandel, 40 mins south of Christchurch.
$600 including some toys and a bag of pellets.
