The tradies and Nova team have been hard at work! (Some more than others…clearly). We have officially moved into our dream clinic - have you spotted us yet? 👀

We will still be by appointment only for the next couple of weeks as we settle in and get the place ready.

Opening day will be announced soon - so stay tuned.

Thankyou again for everyone’s support, kindness, and patience over this transition period.

Lots of love,
Nova 💫

Introducing Ash ✨

Ash is a beautiful, kind-natured girl who absolutely thrives with our in-home consultation service.

Like a selected amount of dogs, Ash finds clinic visits incredibly stressful. In a clinical setting, her fear becomes overwhelming, often causing her to act out with aggression — requiring a muzzle and restraint just to be safely examined. It's heartbreaking and stressful for both her and her family.

But at home, Ash is a completely different dog.

With our mobile service, we come to her — and that makes all the difference. In her familiar, safe environment, Ash greets us with a wagging tail, happily accepts belly rubs, and even brings us her favorite toys to share during her consultation. There’s no fear, no struggle — just a relaxed, happy dog receiving the care she needs.

Ash’s story is a perfect example of how veterinary home visits can transform the experience for anxious pets, turning a stressful ordeal into a calm and positive interaction.

Every interaction is tailored to their comfort, allowing us to build trust and deliver the best care possible — on their terms.

Steve was referred to Nova for ongoing chronic diarrhoea and intermittent inappetence. Despite multiple trial treatments with his primary care vet, there was minimal improvement, prompting the need for a more in-depth investigation.

To investigate further, we performed an abdominal ultrasound, which indicated significant findings:
▪️Severe lymphangiectasia — a rare condition where the lymphatic vessels in the small intestine become abnormally dilated and blocked, leading to leakage of lymph and fat into the gut.
▪️We also suspected protein-losing enteropathy (PLE) — a serious gastrointestinal disorder in which proteins are excessively lost into the intestines, resulting in low blood protein levels.

To confirm the diagnosis and guide treatment, we performed a gastoenteroscopy to obtain intestinal biopsies. These tissue samples were sent to the laboratory for interpretation - which confirmed our suspicions.

With the right medical management and medication, Steve has bounced back to his happy, cheeky self — and his bowel movements are finally back to normal!
His owner couldn’t be more relieved and grateful. Here’s what she had to say about her experience with Nova:

“Nova vets were thorough, they gave us answers instantly & took the best care of Steve as if he was their own. I’ve never had such incredible treatment from a vet before, which now we will never use anyone else. Steve is doing amazing he hasn’t had anymore diarrhoea he is happy, bubbly and back to his normal staffy behaviour! Highly recommended. “

Introducing Dr Priya 😎

Priya is the not so new friendly face (to some) at Nova Vets! She is super passionate about building strong relationships with people and their beloved fur babies, aiming to provide the best possible care for her patients.

She graduated from Massey University with a Bachelors in Veterinary Medicine in 2017, and has worked at many small animal practices all over Auckland. She is a competent surgeon with sound medical knowledge, and has developed a special interest in dentistry and ultrasonography over the years.

Priya and her husband have a 1 year old daughter named Sienna, a cheeky cat called Odie, and are looking forward to adding a dog fur baby to their family one day. She can’t wait to meet you and your fur baby next time you are in the clinic!

Meet Buster Brown! 🐾

This adorable fluff ball was referred to us by his regular vet clinic for a colonoscopy procedure including tissue sampling, via an endoscope.

What is an endoscope?
An endoscope is a specialized medical device that allows veterinarians to see inside the gastrointestinal tract—without the need for invasive surgery. It’s commonly used for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, helping us get a closer look and collect samples when needed.

And here is what his lovely owner has to say about her experience with Nova:
I can’t speak highly enough of the care and support I received from Nova Vets. My dog — who means the absolute world to me — was seriously unwell, and the team there were simply outstanding from the moment we walked through the door.

They not only took exceptional care of my extra special boy, but they also looked after me — explaining every step of his treatment clearly, with honesty, compassion, and total transparency around the costs involved.

In what was an incredibly stressful and emotional time, their kindness and professionalism made all the difference. I truly couldn’t have asked for more.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Nova Vets to anyone who loves their animal like family. They were brilliant in every way.

The BIGGEST yet SOOKIEST canine we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting! 🐾

Moose is a gentle giant — a 69kg Anatolian Shepherd with a heart just as big as his paws. He’s full of love and affection for anyone lucky enough to earn his trust.

Recently, Moose came to visit us with a concerning growth on his gum that had been increasing in size. Given the potential risk of it being cancerous, his dedicated owners opted to have the growth surgically removed under general anaesthesia. The tissue was then sent off to the lab for histology to determine exactly what we’re dealing with.

We’re thrilled to report that the results came back CLEAR — no nasty cells in sight! 🙌 Moose made a full recovery and is back to living his best, biggest life.

And here is what his owners have to say about the Nova Team:
I cannot thank the Nova team enough for the incredible care they show every time we visit. My dog is a giant breed dog and isn’t the easiest when it comes to treatments, but the way the team handles him with patience, kindness and calm confidence is amazing. Despite not loving the actual treatments, he absolutely adores seeing the team which says so much about the environment they’ve created. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful & dedicated team for our pets. - Sarah B.

As promised, we’re keeping these stories short and sweet!

Meet Panda, a 6-month-old Maine C**n kitten who came to Nova feeling very unwell with inappetence, lethargy, and vomiting.

Dr. Itsuki performed an abdominal ultrasound, which raised some concerning findings. Panda was quickly taken to surgery for an Exploratory Laparotomy (a procedure to examine the abdominal organs).

During surgery, our team discovered that Panda had swallowed a piece of dental floss leading to intussusception — a serious condition where one part of the intestine slides into another, causing a painful and potentially life-threatening blockage.

Thanks to the owner's quick observation and our team's prompt surgical intervention, we were able to act in time. With careful repair and post-op care, Panda avoided any lasting damage and is now well on the road to recovery!

It’s officially been one whole year since we launched Nova Vets, and we’re truly amazed by how much a small, dedicated team can achieve in such a short time.

From day one, our mission has been simple: to provide continuity of care to pets while supporting owners with a personable approach. Over the past year, we've had the joy of meeting so many beautiful pets and their families — and every single visit has reminded us why we do what we do.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us along the way. Here’s to many more years of compassionate, expert care!

This month, we’re celebrating by sharing some of our greatest achievements from the past year — including inspiring case stories you won’t want to miss!
