Xander 14yo MF- Pressure sore post bladder surgery 14/01/25

Photobiomodulation played a pivotal role in Xander’s recovery by supporting the wound through each phase of healing while preventing further tissue compromise. In the early stages, PBM likely improved local circulation and oxygenation in already ischemic tissue, helping to limit the progression of necrosis. As the wound opened, it provided effective analgesia and reduced inflammation, creating a more stable environment for repair. During the proliferative phase, PBM stimulated fibroblast activity, collagen synthesis, and angiogenesis, which is reflected in the development of strong, healthy granulation tissue. Importantly, treatment of the surrounding at-risk tissue helped protect against further breakdown. Overall, consistent PBM accelerated healing, improved tissue quality, and contributed to the transition from a severe, full-thickness pressure injury to a controlled and progressing wound

Management Approach
Medical
Systemic antibiotics to manage infection risk
Mechanical
Offloading and repositioning to prevent further pressure damage

Auckland only.
Since 2020, we have seen a significant increase in unwanted litters. The numbers have grown so much that rescues and other agencies are now over capacity, with simply not enough space or resources to help these pups. Sadly, this means their outcomes are often bleak.

The team at The Dog Rescue Project came together and decided we needed to take action — and Desex in the City was born.

Desexing is the first step in preventing unwanted litters, keeping dogs out of pounds and rescues, and helping dogs live longer, healthier lives.

This new outreach desexing programme has limited spaces available, and all applications are assessed on a case-by-case, needs basis.

If your application is approved, you will receive a desexing voucher (and a microchip voucher if required) for the SPCA partner vet closest to you. From there, you will book directly with the vet to arrange your dog’s surgery.

Dogs can get hiccups just like people do. If you have seen your dog’s belly rhythmically bouncing up for a bit, that’s probably what was happening! Dogs with hiccups may even make the classic “hic” sound that people do.
The good news is that like in people, hiccups come and go in dogs, mostly without incident. However, there are some situations where your dog’s hiccups can point to a bigger issue.

When do hiccups indicate a potential health problem? https://bit.ly/3JGMLUW

🐾👍 Bit of light reading for those who have dogs that were desexed at a very young age. Definitely worth educating yourself early and being aware of hormone replacement for dogs. Rita Hogen Canine Herbalist also teaches a natural approach to this.

🐾 Bella’s Comeback Story – Recovery After Cruciate Surgery (TPLO)

Meet Bella — a brave 12-year-old Chihuahua-Pomeranian who recently underwent cruciate ligament surgery. After multiple surgeries over the years and some arthritis setting in, she’s been working hard through her recovery journey.

Post-surgery, Bella started with strict rest and gentle leash walks, then added physiotherapy, laser therapy, and massage to support healing and comfort. These treatments help reduce inflammation, ease joint stiffness, and rebuild muscle strength — key parts of any CCL/TPLO rehab plan.

Bella’s now moving more freely, showing less pain, and getting her spark back! 💛

If your dog is recovering from knee surgery, or struggling with arthritis or stiffness, rehab can make a huge difference in their comfort and mobility. No matter how small!🐾
