Why do we do it 🫠
I feel like I have had one of the luckiest runs so far this year, and played nurse for the better part of 6 months 😅!
From horses needing surgery, to unwelcome ulcers, to split lips and heinous abscesses, the ponies sure do look pretty out my office window... and right now that's what they all seem about good for 🤣
I will be the first to admit, seeing everyone starting to crack on in preparation for the season and summer adventures, has me wanting to pull my hair out and scream WHY ME at the top of my lungs.
It's such a hard game, this horse shindig. It's our responsibility to look after our equines in the best way we can. They rely on us, and can only be the best they can be if we look and listen when they QUIETLY tell us something is wrong.
Sometimes I feel like I worry too much, look for things that are wrong. But my gut instinct has always been right with every small or big ailment any horses in my care have had. But I like to think that makes someone a good horse owner, making sure that they do everything in their power to look after their equines, who really, are at the mercy of us and our decision making.
Where that's so tough, though, is time. Where there is a will, there is always a way to find a way to fund something, especially when it comes to health and wellbeing of our horses.
But time... to sit back, and wait, because most things just take time to come right, is so hard. When days become weeks, and weeks become months, you do start to consider whether this horse thing is even for you, and maybe I would have been better off spending the same money and time buying a 35 foot yacht, and sailing around the coast 🥲.
I'm definitely not the first person to be hit with a run of bad luck, and I certainly won't be the last, but DAMN!
Something or someone give me some strength... or a horse made out of diamond 🫣
