This past Friday, we had a very special visitor in our small animal clinic who was certainly not so small! A young 100kg calf came in with a complicated fractured front leg, presenting our amazing veterinary team with a unique challenge.
Our vets performed a procedure to correct the alignment; carefully removing a section of bone to allow the leg to be straightened before applying a cast to support the bone as it begins healing. To give this little patient the best chance of recovery, our vets fabricated what’s called a “Thomas Splint” to support the limb over the next few weeks.
This case was an opportunity to bring both our small animal and large animal departments together. No matter the size of the patient, our team is always ready to think outside the box and go the extra mile!🐮🩺
