MY breed. If you are looking to “ breed” your lab(s) please know that responsible breeding is ethical breeding. Your bitch AND sire should have good or excellent OFA hips and elbows. they should be PRA cleared, have genetic testing and not carry any known disease labs EXPECIALLY EIC. It does not stop there. Cardiac clearances should also be done. No one should ever ever ever breed just because they want a litter. The sole purpose is to improve the breed , not stay par or God forbid, go backwards. Well bred pups will not have the health issues that others carry. Here is another tidbit. For the love of God PLEASE do not breed yellows and chocolates . KNOW your genetics before breeding. Silver labs are not acknowledged. They are many breedings of chocolates and yellows ( both recessive genes) over and over again make this pale chocolate and in the process of making a severely recessive gene, comes a whole issue all together. Pink eye rims and dudly noses are also caused by this same exact issue. With this all said; to get a bitch ready to breed, you will put about 3,000 into her. IF you do not own the sire, you will put 1800-4000 min into stud fees. ( if you do own the male, add another 3,000. Puppies do not make money. Hard stop. An ethical breeder works for many many years to get their lines in order which is why all ethical breeders will also offer contracts that guarentee the health of their pup and willingness to take the pup back if anything happens. OK… off my soap box. With that said, I wish the best of luck and happiness to all those that wish to join this amazing journey. If you are a lucky person looking for a new furever friend, demand yes DEMAND ethical breeding only. Ask questions. Research pedigree. Visualize the health clearances and genetic testing. Never take a persons word for it because let’s face it. People lie. Now apologies( yet not) to those who find this post disturbing because they themselves are trying to make a quick buck. Please better the breed and do what’s best for their future.
